We study a static, spherically symmetric system of (2j+ 1) massive Dirac particles, each having angular momentum j, j= 1, 2,..., in a classical gravitational and SU (2) Yang-Mills field. We show that for any black hole solution of the associated Einstein-Dirac-Yang/Mills equations, the spinors must vanish identically outside of the event horizon.

We consider a class of two-dimensional Schrdinger operator with a singular interaction of the type and a fixed strength supported by an infinite family of concentric, equidistantly spaced circles, and discuss what happens below the essential spectrum when the system is amended by an AharonovBohm flux in the center. It is shown that if , there is a critical value such that the discrete spectrum has an accumulation point when , while for the number of eigenvalues is at most finite, in particular, the discrete spectrum is empty for any fixed and small enough.

We shall consider the following Dirichlet eigenvalue problem on a smooth bounded domain S~ eRn, I where V is a nonnegative function defined on,~. As is well-known, the eigenvalues of problem (1.1) can be interpreted as the energy levels of a particle travelling under an external force field of a potential q in Rn, where and the corresponding eigenfunctions are wave functions of the Schrodinger equation-J~+ qu= lu. Furthermore, the set of eigenvalues {A,} of (1.1) are nonnegative and can be arranged in a nondecreasing order as follows, It is a significant problem to find a lower bound for~, 1 in terms of the geometry of Q. In this paper, by combining modular forms and characteristic forms, we obtain general anomaly cancellation formulas of any dimension. For 4 k+ 2 dimensional manifolds, our results include the gravitational anomaly cancellation formulas of Alvarez-Gaum and Witten in dimensions 2, 6 and 10 (\cite {AW}) as special cases. In dimension 4 k+ 2, we derive anomaly cancellation formulas for index gerbes. In dimension 4 k+ 2, we obtain certain results about eta invariants, which are interesting in spectral geometry.

We explore the tunneling behavior of a quantum particle on a finite graph in the presence of an asymptotically large potential with two or three potential wells. The behavior of the particle is primarily governed by the local spectral symmetry of the graph around the wells. In the case of two wells the behavior is stable in the sense that it can be predicted from a sufficiently large neighborhood of the wells. However in the case of three wells we are able to exhibit examples where the tunneling behavior can be changed significantly by perturbing the graph arbitrarily far from the wells.

We proved the existence of supersymmetric Hermitian metrics with torsion on a class of non-Kaehler manifolds.

We analyze spectral properties of a leaky wire model with a potential bias. It describes a two-dimensional quantum particle exposed to a potential consisting of two parts. One is an attractive -interaction supported by a non-straight, piecewise smooth curve L dividing the plane into two regions of which one, the interior, is convex. The other interaction component is a constant positive potential V0 in one of the regions. We show that in the critical case, V0 = 2, the discrete spectrum is non-void if and only if the bias is supported in the interior. We also analyze the non-critical situations, in particular, we show that in the subcritical case, V0 < 2, the system may have any finite number of bound states provided the angle between the asymptotes of L is small enough.

In this short survey paper, we shall discuss certain recent results in classical gravity. Our main attention will be restricted to two topics in which we have been involved; the positive mass conjecture and its extensions to the case with horizons, including the Penrose conjecture (Part I), and the interaction of gravity with other force fields and quantum-mechanical particles (Part II).

Motivated by a recent application of quantum graphs to model the anomalous Hall effect we discuss quantum graphs the vertices of which exhibit a preferred orientation. We describe an example of such a vertex coupling and analyze the corresponding band spectra of lattices with square and hexagonal elementary cells showing that they depend heavily on the network topology, in particular, on the degrees of the vertices involved.

We analyze spectrum of Laplacian supported by a periodic honeycomb lattice with generally unequal edge lengths and a <i></i> type coupling in the vertices. Such a quantum graph has nonempty point spectrum with compactly supported eigenfunctions provided all the edge lengths are commensurate. We derive conditions determining the continuous spectral component and show that existence of gaps may depend on number-theoretic properties of edge lengths ratios. The case when two of the three lengths coincide is discussed in detail.

We give a topological simulation for tensor networks that we call the two-string model. In this approach we give a new way to design protocols, and we discover a new multipartite quantum communication protocol. We introduce the notion of topologically compressed transformations. Our new protocol can implement multiple, non-local compressed transformations among multi-parties using one multipartite resource state.

We study deformations of maximally supersymmetric gauge theories by higher dimensional operators in various spacetime dimensions. We classify infinitesimal deformations that preserve all 16 supersymmetries, while allowing the possibility of breaking either Lorentz or R-symmetry, using an on-shell algebraic method developed by Movshev and Schwarz. We also consider the problem of extending the deformation beyond the first order.

The paper discusses quantum graphs with a vertex coupling which interpolates between the common one of the type and a coupling introduced recently by two of the authors which exhibits a preferred orientation. Describing the interpolation family in terms of circulant matrices, we analyze the spectral and scattering property of such vertices, and investigate the band spectrum of the corresponding square lattice graph.

We propose definitions of quasilocal energy and momentum surface energy of a spacelike 2-surface with positive intrinsic curvature in a spacetime. Our definitions do not depend on the compact spacelike hypersurface it bounds. We show that the quasilocal energy of the boundary of a compact spacelike hypersurface which satisfies the local energy condition is strictly positive unless the spacetime is flat along the spacelike hypersurface.

We give a lower estimate of the gap of the first two eigenvalues of the Schrodinger operator in the case when the potential is strongly convex. In particular, if the Hessian of the potential is bounded from below by a positive constant, the gap has a lower bound independent of the dimension. We also estimate the gap when the potential is not necessarily convex.

Weyl points are degenerate points on the spectral bands at which energy bands intersect conically. They are the origins of many novel physical phenomena and have attracted much attention recently. In this paper, we investigate the existence of such points in the spectrum of the 3-dimensional Schrödinger operator H=−Δ+V(x) with V(x) being in a large class of periodic potentials. Specifically, we give very general conditions on the potentials which ensure the existence of 3-fold Weyl points on the associated energy bands. Different from 2-dimensional honeycomb structures which possess Dirac points where two adjacent band surfaces touch each other conically, the 3-fold Weyl points are conically intersection points of two energy bands with an extra band sandwiched in between. To ensure the 3-fold and 3-dimensional conical structures, more delicate, new symmetries are required. As a consequence, new techniques combining more symmetries are used to justify the existence of such conical points under the conditions proposed. This paper provides comprehensive proof of such 3-fold Weyl points. In particular, the role of each symmetry endowed to the potential is carefully analyzed. Our proof extends the analysis on the conical spectral points to a higher dimension and higher multiplicities. We also provide some numerical simulations on typical potentials to demonstrate our analysis.

In this paper, we construct several kinds of new time-periodic solutions of the vacuum Einsteins field equations whose Riemann curvature tensors vanish, keep finite or take the infinity at some points in these space-times, respectively. The singularities of these new time-periodic solutions are investigated and some new physical phenomena are discovered.

Detailed studies of four dimensional N= 2 superconformal field theories (SCFT) defined by isolated complete intersection singularities are performed: we compute the Coulomb branch spectrum, Seiberg-Witten solutions and central charges. Most of our theories have exactly marginal deformations and we identify the weakly coupled gauge theory descriptions for many of them, which involve (affine) D and E shaped quiver gauge theories and theories formed from Argyres-Douglas matters. These investigations provide strong evidence for the singularity approach in classifying 4d N= 2 SCFTs.

The aim of the paper is to derive spectral estimates into several classes of magnetic systems. They include three-dimensional regions with Dirichlet boundary as well as a particle in 3 confined by a local change of the magnetic field. We establish two-dimensional BerezinLiYau and LiebThirring-type bounds in the presence of magnetic fields and, using them, get three-dimensional estimates for the eigenvalue moments of the corresponding magnetic Laplacians.

We compute the particle spectrum and some of the Yukawa couplings for a family of heterotic compactifications on quintic threefolds X involving bundles that are deformations of TX+ O_X. These are then related to the compactifications with torsion found recently by Li and Yau. We compute the spectrum and the Yukawa couplings for generic bundles on generic quintics, as well as for certain stable non-generic bundles on the special Dwork quintics. In all our computations we keep the dependence on the vector bundle moduli explicit. We also show that on any smooth quintic there exists a deformation of the bundle TX+ O_X whose Kodaira-Spencer class obeys the Li-Yau non-degeneracy conditions and admits a non-vanishing triple pairing.

The aim of the paper is to investigate resonances in quantum graphs with a general self-adjoint coupling in the vertices and their trajectories with respect to varying edge lengths. We derive formulae determining the Taylor expansion of the resonance pole position up to the second order, which represent, in particular, a counterpart to the Fermi rule derived recently by Lee and Zworski for graphs with the standard coupling. Furthermore, we discuss the asymptotic behavior of the resonances in the high-energy regime in the situation where the leads are attached through or s conditions, and we prove that in the case of s coupling the resonances approach to the real axis with the increasing real parts as O((Rek)2).
