By applying the residue method for period integrals and Langlands-Shahidi’s theory for residues of Eisenstein series, we study the period integrals for six spherical varieties. For each spherical variety, we prove a relation between the period integrals and certain automorphic L-functions. In some cases, we also study the local multiplicity of the spherical varieties.

In the present paper, we prove the 2-part of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for an explicit infinite family of rank 0 quadratic twists of the modular elliptic curve χ_0(14), using an explicit form of the Waldspurger formula. We also give an explicit infinite family of rank 1 quadratic twists of χ_0(14) whose Tate–Shafarevich group is of odd cardinality.

In his monograph Arthur (The endoscopic classification of representations: orthogonal and symplectic groups, Colloquium Publications, American Mathematical Society, Providence, 2013) characterizes the L-packets of quasisplit symplectic groups and orthogonal groups. By extending his work, we characterize the L-packets for the corresponding similitude groups with desired properties. In particular, we show these packets satisfy the conjectural endoscopic character identities.

For an odd prime p, we prove the p-part of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer formula for semistable elliptic curves of analytic rank one.

The main results of this paper involve general algebraic differentials ω on a general pencil of algebraic curves. We show how to determine whether ω is integrable in elementary terms for infinitely many members of the pencil. In particular, this corrects an assertion of James Davenport from 1981 and provides the first proof, even in rather strengthened form. We also indicate analogies with work of Andre and Hrushovski and with the Grothendieck–Katz Conjecture. To reach this goal, we first provide proofs of independent results which extend conclusions of relative Manin–Mumford type allied to the Zilber–Pink conjectures: we characterise torsion points lying on a general curve in a general abelian scheme of arbitrary relative dimension at least 2. In turn, we present yet another application of the latter results to a rather general pencil of Pell equations A^2−DB^2=1 over a polynomial ring. We determine whether the Pell equation (with squarefree D) is solvable for infinitely many members of the pencil.

We study the general problem of equidistribution of expanding translates of an analytic curve by an algebraic diagonal flow on the homogeneous space of a semisimple algebraic group G. We define two families of algebraic subvarieties of the associated partial flag variety, which give the obstructions to non-divergence and equidistribution. We apply this to prove that for Lebesgue almost every point on an analytic curve in the space of m × n real matrices whose image is not contained in any subvariety coming from these two families, Dirichlet’s theorem on simultaneous Diophantine approximation cannot be improved. The proof combines geometric invariant theory, Ratner’s theorem on measure rigidity for unipotent flows, and linearization technique.

This paper proves Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for Q-curves defined over real quadratic number field with everywhere good reductions.

Let $p\equiv 4,7\ \mathrm {mod}\ 9$ be a rational prime number such that $3\ \mathrm {mod}\ p$ is not a cube. In this paper, we prove the $3$-part of $|\textrm {III}(E_p)|\cdot |\textrm {III}(E_{3p^2})|$ is as predicted by the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, where $E_p: x^3+y^3=p$ and $E_{3p^2}: x^3+y^3=3p^2$ are the elliptic curves related to the Sylvester conjecture and cube sum problems.
