We study Schrdinger operators on an infinite quantum graph of a chain form which consists of identical rings connected at the touching points by -couplings with a parameter\alpha\in {\bb R}. If the graph is' straight', ie periodic with respect to ring shifts, its Hamiltonian has a band spectrum with all the gaps open whenever 0. We consider a'bending'deformation of the chain consisting of changing one position at a single ring and show that it gives rise to eigenvalues in the open spectral gaps. We analyze dependence of these eigenvalues on the coupling and the'bending angle'as well as resonances of the system coming from the bending. We also discuss the behaviour of the eigenvalues and resonances at the edges of the spectral bands.

We prove an abstract criterion stating resolvent convergence in the case of operators acting in different Hilbert spaces. This result is then applied to the case of Laplacians on a family X of branched quantum waveguides. Combining it with an exterior complex scaling we show, in particular, that the resonances on X approximate those of the Laplacian with free boundary conditions on X0, the skeleton graph of X.

We consider a charged spinless quantum particle confined to a graph consisting of a loop to which a halfline lead is attached; this system is placed into a homogeneous magnetic field perpendicular to the loop plane. We derive the reflection amplitude and show that there is an infinite ladder of resonances; analyzing the resonance pole trajectories, we show that half of them turn into true embedded eigenvalues provided the flux through the loop is an integer or half-integer multiple of the flux unit hc/e. We also describe a general method to solve the scattering problem on graphs of which the present model is a simple particular case. Finally, we discuss ways in which a state localized initially at the loop decays.

In addition to the conventional renormalized-coupling-constant picture, point interactions in two and three dimensions are shown to model within a suitable energy range scattering on localized potentials, both attractive and repulsive.

We investigate the operator -\Delta-lpha\delta (x-\Gamma) in -\Delta-lpha\delta (x-\Gamma) , where -\Delta-lpha\delta (x-\Gamma) is a smooth surface which is either compact or periodic and satisfies suitable regularity requirements. We find an asymptotic expansion for the lower part of the spectrum as -\Delta-lpha\delta (x-\Gamma) which involves a``two-dimensional''comparison operator determined by the geometry of the surface -\Delta-lpha\delta (x-\Gamma) . In the compact case the asymptotics concerns negative eigenvalues, in the periodic case Floquet eigenvalues. We also give a bandwidth estimate in the case when a periodic -\Delta-lpha\delta (x-\Gamma) decomposes into compact connected components. Finally, we comment on analogous systems of lower dimension and other aspects of the problem.

Inspired by a recent result of Davies and Pushnitski, we study resonance asymptotics of quantum graphs with general coupling conditions at the vertices. We derive a criterion for the asymptotics to be of a non-Weyl character. We show that for balanced vertices with permutation-invariant couplings the asymptotics is non-Weyl only in the case of Kirchhoff or anti-Kirchhoff conditions. While for graphs without permutation symmetry numerous examples of non-Weyl behaviour can be constructed. Furthermore, we present an insight into what makes the Kirchhoff/anti-Kirchhoff coupling particular from the resonance point of view. Finally, we demonstrate a generalization to quantum graphs with unequal edge weights.

We consider a spinless particle coupled to a quantized Bose field and show that such a system has a ground state for two classes of short-range potentials which are alone too weak to have a zero-energy resonance.

We consider a quantum particle in a waveguide which consists of an infinite straight Dirichlet strip divided by a thin semitransparent barrier on a line parallel to the walls which is modelled by a delta potential. We show that if the coupling strength of the latter is modified locally, ie, it reaches the same asymptotic value in both directions along the line, there is always a bound state below the bottom of the essential spectrum provided the effective coupling function is attractive in the mean. The eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, as well as the scattering matrix for energies above the threshold, are found numerically by the mode-matching technique. In particular, we discuss the rate at which the ground state energy emerges from the continuum and properties of the nodal lines. This text is a part of an unfinished project which deals with the generalized point interaction (GPI) in one dimension. We employ two natural parametrizations, which are known but have not attracted much attention, to express the resolvent of the GPI Hamiltonian as well as its spectral and scattering properties. It is also shown that the GPI yields one of the simplest models in which a non-trivial Berry phase is exhibited. Furthermore, the generalized Kronig-Penney model corresponding to the GPI is discussed. We show that there are three different types of the high-energy behaviour for the corresponding band spectrum.

We discuss quantum graphs consisting of a compact part and semi-infinite leads. Such a system may have embedded eigenvalues if some edge lengths in the compact part are rationally related. If such a relation is perturbed, these eigenvalues may turn into resonances; we analyze this effect both generally and in simple examples.
