(1) Ker (f,) is a characteristic subgroup of T,(M),(2) the group G leaves Ker (f*) invariant. This assumption is needed in the last two statements of Corollary 6,(vi) of Theorems 8, Theorem 11 and Theorem 13. In Theorem 12, the corresponding assumption can be stated as follows: Let H be the subspace of H,(M, I?) defined by {PIP U ai, U... U ai, _,= 0 for all ii}. Then G leaves H invariant.

In this article, we estimate the quasi-local energy with reference to the Minkowski spacetime (Wang and Yau in Phys Rev Lett 102 (2): 021101, 2009; Commun Math Phys 288 (3): 919942, 2009), the anti-de Sitter spacetime (Chen et al. in Commun Anal Geom, 2016. arXiv: 1603.02975), or the Schwarzschild spacetime (Chen et al. in Adv Theor Math Phys 22 (1): 123, 2018). In each case, the reference spacetime admits a conformal KillingYano 2-form which facilitates the application of the Minkowski formula in Wang et al.(J Differ Geom 105 (2): 249290, 2017) to estimate the quasi-local energy. As a consequence of the positive mass theorems in Liu and Yau (J Am Math Soc 19 (1): 181204, 2006) and Shi and Tam (Class Quantum Gravity 24 (9): 23572366, 2007) and the above estimate, we obtain rigidity theorems which characterize the Minkowski spacetime and the hyperbolic space.

We propose a polynomial time computable graph invariant, which comes out directly from a modified version of discrete Greens function on a graph. It is our hope that it can help to construct fast algorithms for the graph isomorphism testing. We explain the physics behind this discrete Greens function, which is a very basic idea applied to graphs.

We construct a cohomology theory of transitive digraphs and use it to give a new proof of a theorem of Gerstenhaber and Schack about isomorphism between simplicial cohomology and Hochschild cohomology of a certain algebra associated with the simplicial complex.

Ricci flow deforms the Riemannian metric proportionally to the curvature, such that the curvature evolves according to a heat diffusion process and eventually becomes constant everywhere. Ricci flow has demonstrated its great potential by solving various problems in many fields, which can be hardly handled by alternative methods so far.

The Gauss-Bonnet theorem and the Cohn-Vossen inequality show that the only complete surface with positive curvature is either the sphere, RP2, or the plane. In higher dimension, the curvature tensor is far more complicated. There are several commonly used partial components of the curvature tensor that had been studied for the whole century. The simplest one is the scalar curvature which is the average of all curvatures at one point. It appeared in the Hilbert action for general relativity. This was studied extensively in connection with general relativity.

This paper is motivated by the problem of subdividing a prismatic mesh to a tetrahedral mesh (without inserting Steiner points) so as to not only match arbitrarily prescribed boundary conditions but also allow arbitrary topologies in the base mesh. We explore all possible combinations of these two factors, and propose a complete solution to this 3D problem by converting it to an equivalent 2D graph problem, called cutting flow problem. For each case, we not only prove the sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of solutions, but also provide linear and provable algorithms to compute a solution whenever there is one.

Based on examples from superstring/D-brane theory since the work of Douglas and Moore on resolution of singularities of a superstring target-space Y via a D-brane probe, the richness and the complexity of the stack of punctual D0-branes on a variety, and as a guiding question, we lay down a conjecture that any resolution Y of a variety Y over Y can be factored through an embedding of Y into the stack Y of punctual D0-branes of rank Y on Y for Y in Y , where Y depends on the germ of singularities of Y . We prove that this conjecture holds for the resolution Y of a reduced singular curve Y over Y . In string-theoretical language, this says that the resolution Y of a singular curve Y always arises from an appropriate D0-brane aggregation on Y and that the rank of the Chan-Paton module of the D0-branes involved can be chosen to be arbitrarily large.

Gravitational waves are predicted by the general theory of relativity. In [6] D. Christodoulou showed that gravitational waves have a nonlinear memory. We proved in [3] that the electromagnetic field contributes at highest order to the nonlinear memory effect of gravitational waves. In the present paper, we study this electromagnetic Christodoulou memory effect and compute it for binary neutron star mergers. These are typical sources of gravitational radiation. During these processes, not only mass and momenta are radiated away in form of gravitational waves, but also very strong magnetic fields are produced and radiated away. Thus the observed effect on test masses of a laser interferometer gravitational wave detector will be enlarged by the contribution of the electromagnetic field. Therefore, the present results are important for the planned experiments. Looking at the null asymptotics of spacetimes, which are solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell (EM) equations, we derived in [3] the electromagnetic Christodoulou memory effect. Moreover, our results allow to answer astro-physical questions, as the knowledge about the amount of energy radiated away in a neutron star binary merger enables us to gain information about the source of the gravitational waves.
