In this paper, we consider the three-dimensional Schrdinger operator with a -interaction of strength > 0 supported on an unbounded surface parametrized by the mapping R2x(x,f(x)), where 0, and f:R2R, f 0, is a C2-smooth, compactly supported function. The surface supporting the interaction can be viewed as a local deformation of the plane. It is known that the essential spectrum of this Schrdinger operator coincides with 142,+. We prove that for all sufficiently small > 0, its discrete spectrum is non-empty and consists of a unique simple eigenvalue. Moreover, we obtain an asymptotic expansion of this eigenvalue in the limit 0+. In particular, this eigenvalue tends to 142 exponentially fast as 0+.

Since the work by Guo (Invent Math 153(3):593630, 2003), it has remained an open problem to establish the global existence of perturbative classical solutions around a global Maxwellian to the VlasovMaxwellBoltzmann system with the whole range of soft potentials. This is mainly due to the complex structure of the system, in particular, the degenerate dissipation at large velocity, the velocity-growth of the nonlinear term induced by the Lorentz force, and the regularity-loss of the electromagnetic fields. This paper solves this problem in the whole space provided that initial perturbation has sufficient regularity and velocity-integrability.

We obtain the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of retarded parabolic equations with superlinear perturbations. The asymptotic behavior result is studied by using the pullback attractor framework.

The dynamics of dilute electrons can be modelled by the fundamental VlasovPoissonBoltzmann system which describes mutual interactions of the electrons through collisions in the self-consistent electric field. In this paper, it is shown that any smooth perturbation of a given global Maxwellian leads to a unique global-in-time classical solution when either the mean free path is small or the background charge density is large. Moreover, the solution converges to the global Maxwellian when time tends to infinity. The analysis combines the techniques used in the study of conservation laws with the decomposition of the Boltzmann equation introduced in [17, 19] by obtaining new entropy estimates for this physical model.

In this paper, we introduce a new Glimm functional for general systems of hyperbolic conservation laws. This new functional is consistent with the classical Glimm functional for the case when each characteristic field is either genuinely nonlinear or linearly degenerate, so that it can be viewed as optimal in some sense. With this new functional, the consistency of the Glimm scheme is proved clearly for general systems. Moreover, the convergence rate of the Glimm scheme is shown to be the same as the one obtained in Bressan, Marson (Arch Ration Mech Anal 142(2):155176, 1998) for systems with each characteristic field being genuinely nonlinear or linearly degenerate.
