G-equations are well-known front propagation models in turbulent combustion which describe the front motion law in the form of local normal velocity equal to a constant (laminar speed) plus the normal projection of fluid velocity. In level set formulation, G-equations are HamiltonJacobi equations with convex (<i>L</i> ¹ type) but non-coercive Hamiltonians. Viscous G-equations arise from either numerical approximations or regularizations by small diffusion. The nonlinear eigenvalue $${\bar H}$$ from the cell problem of the viscous G-equation can be viewed as an approximation of the inviscid turbulent flame speed <i>s</i> _T. An important problem in turbulent combustion theory is to study properties of <i>s</i> _T, in particular how <i>s</i> _T depends on the flow amplitude <i>A</i>. In this paper, the L p convergence rates of planar diffusion waves for multi-dimensional Euler equations with damping are considered. The analysis relies on a newly introduced frequency decomposition and Green function based energy method. It is a combination of the L p estimate on the low frequency component by using an approximate Green function and L 2 estimate on the high frequency component through the energy method. By noticing that the low frequency component in the approximate Green function has the algebraic decay which governs the large time behavior, while the high frequency component has the exponential decay but with singularity, their combination leads to a global algebraic decay estimate. We present a domain decomposition method on a semilinear hyperbolic system with multiple relaxation times. In the region where the relaxation time is small, an asymptotic equilibrium equation can be used for computational efficiency. An interface condition based on the sign of the characteristic speed at the interface is provided to couple the two systems in a domain decomposition setting. A rigorous analysis, based on the Laplace Transform, on the $ L^2$ error estimate is presented for the linear case, which shows how the error of the domain decomposition method depends on the smaller relaxation time, and the boundary and interface layer effects. The given convergence rate is optimal. We present a numerical implementation of this domain decomposition method, and give some numerical results in order to study the performance of this method.

We study the critical and super-critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equations in $\bR^ 2$ or $\bT^ 2$. Higher regularity of mild solutions with arbitrary initial data in H^{2-} is proved. As a corollary, we obtain a global existence result for the critical 2D quasi-geostrophic equations with periodic H^{2-} data. Some decay in time estimates are also provided.
