Let$M$be a compact complex manifold. The corresponding Teichmüller space Teich is the space of all complex structures on$M$up to the action of the group $${{\rm Diff}_0(M)}$$ of isotopies. The mapping class group $${\Gamma:={\rm Diff}(M)/{{\rm Diff}_0(M)}}$$ acts on Teich in a natural way. An$ergodic complex structure$is a complex structure with a $${\Gamma}$$ -orbit dense in Teich. Let$M$be a complex torus of complex dimension $${\ge 2}$$ or a hyperkähler manifold with $${b_2 > 3}$$ . We prove that$M$is ergodic, unless$M$has maximal Picard rank (there are countably many such$M$). This is used to show that all hyperkähler manifolds are Kobayashi non-hyperbolic.

THEOREM 1. Let M be a compact two dimensional complex manifold with zero Euler number. Suppose there is a basis {a,, aZ, a3, a3 of the first real cohomology group H(M, R) such that the cup product a, U u2 U (Ye U LY~ is not zero. Then either M is biholomorphic to the complex torus or M is covered by the euclidean space.

In this paper, we prove that in any projective manifold, the complements of general hypersurfaces of sufficiently large degree are Kobayashi hyperbolic. We also provide an effective lower bound on the degree. This confirms a conjecture by S. Kobayashi in 1970. Our proof, based on the theory of jet differentials, is obtained by reducing the problem to the construction of a particular example with strong hyperbolicity properties. This approach relies the construction of higher order logarithmic connections allowing us to construct logarithmic Wronskians. These logarithmic Wronskians are the building blocks of the more general logarithmic jet differentials we are able to construct. As a byproduct of our proof, we prove a more general result on the orbifold hyperbolicity for generic geometric orbifolds in the sense of Campana, with only one component and large multiplicities. We also establish a Second Main Theorem type result for holomorphic entire curves intersecting general hypersurfaces, and we prove the Kobayashi hyperbolicity of the cyclic cover of a general hypersurface, again with an explicit lower bound on the degree of all these hypersurfaces.

Let $T(S)$ be the Teichmuller space over a hyperbolic Riemann surface $S$. A geodesic disk in $T(S)$ is defined the image of an isometric embedding of the Poincar\'e disk into $T(S)$. In this paper, it is shown that for any non-Strebel point $\tau\in T(S)\backslash\{[0]\}$, there are infinitely many geodesic disks containing the straight line $\{[t\mu]:\,t\in (-1/k,1/k)\}$ where $\mu$ is an extremal representative of $\tau$ with $\|\mu\|_\infty=k$. An infinitesimal version is also obtained.
