Smooth valuations on manifolds are studied by establishing a link with the Rumin-de Rham complex of the co-sphere bundle. Several operations on differential forms induce operations on smooth valuations: signature operator, Rumin-Laplace operator, Euler-Verdier involution and derivation operator. As an application, Alesker’s Hard Lefschetz Theorem for even translation invariant valuations on a finite-dimensional Euclidean space is generalized to all translation invariant valuations. The proof uses K¨ahler identities, the Rumin-de Rham complex and spectral geometry.

We characterize H¨older continuously differentiable m dimensional submanifolds of Euclidean space among m rectifiable sets S in terms of growth conditions on the m density ratios of the Hausdorff measure Hm S.

We study the moduli space M of torsion-free G2-structures on a fixed compact manifold M7, and define its associated universal intermediate Jacobian J . We define the Yukawa coupling and relate it to a natural pseudo-K¨ahler structure on J . We consider natural Chern–Simons-type functionals, whose critical points give associative and coassociative cycles (calibrated submanifolds coupled with Yang–Mills connections), and also deformed Donaldson–Thomas connections. We show that the moduli spaces of these structures can be isotropically immersed in J by means of G2-analogues of Abel–Jacobi maps.

Let (M, h) be a compact 4-dimensional Einstein manifold, and suppose that h is Hermitian with respect to some complex structure J on M. Then either (M, J, h) is K¨ahler-Einstein, or else, up to rescaling and isometry, it is one of the following two exceptions: the Page metric on CP2#CP2, or the Einstein metric on CP2#2CP2 discovered in [8].

We study certain natural differential forms [] and their G equivariant extensions on the space of connections. These forms are defined using the family local index theorem. When the base manifold is symplectic, they define a family of symplectic forms on the space of connections. We will explain their relationships with the Einstein metric and the stability of vector bundles. These forms also determine primary and secondary characteristic forms (and their higher level generalizations).
