We describe a new family of representations of 1() in PU(2,1), where  is a hyperbolic Riemann surface with at least one deleted point. This family is obtained by a bending process associated to an ideal triangulation of . We give an explicit description of this family by describing a coordinates system in the spirit of shear coordinates on the Teichm¨uller space. We identify within this family new examples of discrete, faithful, and type-preserving representations of 1(). In turn, we obtain a 1-parameter family of embeddings of the Teichm¨uller space of  in the PU(2,1)-representation variety of 1(). These results generalise to arbitrary  the results obtained in [42] for the 1-punctured torus.

We give a new proof of a classical uniqueness theorem of Alexandrov [4] using the weak uniqueness continuation theorem of BersNirenberg [8]. We prove a version of this theorem with the minimal regularity assumption: the spherical Hessians of the corresponding convex bodies as Radon measures are nonsingular.

An n dimensional minimal submanifold $\sum$  of $R^{n+m}$ is called nonparametric if $\sum$  can be represented as the graph of a vector-valued function $f : D \subset \mathbb{ R}^n \to \mathbb{R}^n$. This note provides a sufficient condition for the stability of such $\sum$ in terms of the norm of the differential $df$.

We prove a structure theorem for compact aspherical Lorentz manifolds with abundant local symmetry. If M is a compact, aspherical, real-analytic, complete Lorentz manifold such that the isometry group of the universal cover has semisimple identity component, then the local isometry orbits in M are roughly ¯bers of a¯ber bundle. A corollary is that if M has an open, dense, locally homogeneous subset, then M is locally homogeneous.
