In this paper we investigate the life-span of classical solutions to the hyperbolic geometric flow in two space variables with slow decay initial data. By establishing some new estimates on the solutions of linear wave equations in two space variables, we give a lower bound of the life-span of classical solutions to the hyperbolic geometric flow with asymptotic flat initial Riemann surfaces.

We construct many self-similar and translating solitons for Lagrangian mean curvature flow, including self-expanders and translating solitons with arbitrarily small oscillation on the Lagrangian angle. Our translating solitons play the same role as cigar solitons in Ricci flow, and are important in studying the regularity of Lagrangian mean curvature flow. Given two transverse Lagrangian planes Rn in Cn with sum of characteristic angles less than π, we show there exists a Lagrangian self-expander asymptotic to this pair of planes. The Maslov class of these self-expanders is zero. Thus they can serve as local models for surgeries on Lagrangian mean curvature flow. Families of self-shrinkers and self-expanders with different topologies are also constructed. This paper generalizes the work of Anciaux [1], Joyce [12], Lawlor [15], and Lee and Wang [18, 19].

Let fn → f0 be a convergent sequence of rational maps, preserving critical relations, and f0 be geometrically finite with parabolic points. It is known that for some unlucky choices of sequences fn,the Julia sets J(fn) and their Hausdorff dimensions may fail to converge as n → ∞. Our main result here is to prove the convergence of J(fn) and H.dim J(fn) for generic sequences fn. The same conclusion was obtained earlier, with stronger hypotheses on the sequence fn, by Bodart-Zinsmeister and then by McMullen. We characterize those choices of fn by means of flows of appropriate polynomial vector fields (following Douady-Estrada-Sentenac). We first prove an independent result about the (s-dimensional) length of separatrices of such flows, and then use it to estimate tails of Poincar´e series. This, together with existing techniques,provides the desired control of conformal densities and Hausdorff dimensions. Our method may be applied to other problems relatedto parabolic perturbations.

In this paper, we consider the heat ‡flow for p-pseudoharmonic maps from a closed Sasakian manifold into a compact Riemannian manifold. We prove global existence and asymptotic convergence of the solution for the p-pseudoharmonic map heat ‡flow provided that the sectional curvature of the target manifold is nonpositive. Moreover, without the curvature assumption on the target manifold, we obtain global existence and asymptotic convergence of the p-pseudoharmonic map heat fl‡ow as well when its initial p-energy is sufficiently small.

A generation of symbols asserted for n ≥ 0 in the proof of Theorem 3.3 of the original paper in fact only holds for n > 0, thus undermining the proof of the theorem. A new version of Section 3.5 of the original paper is given, culminating in a corrected proof of Theorem 3.3.
