We prove that the higher harmonic signature of an even dimensional oriented Riemannian foliation F of a compact Riemannian manifold M with coefficients in a leafwise U(p, q)-flat complex bundle is a leafwise homotopy invariant. We also prove the leafwise homotopy invariance of the twisted higher Betti classes. Consequences for the Novikov conjecture for foliations and for groups are investigated.

Let (M, ω) be a compact symplectic 4-manifold with a compatible almost complex structure J. The problem of finding a J-compatible symplectic form with prescribed volume form is an almost-K¨ahler analogue of Yau’s theorem and is connected to a programme in symplectic topology proposed by Donaldson. We call the corresponding equation for the symplectic form the Calabi- Yau equation. Solutions are unique in their cohomology class. It is shown in this paper that a solution to this equation exists if the Nijenhuis tensor is small in a certain sense. Without this assumption, it is shown that the problem of existence can be reduced to obtaining a C0 bound on a scalar potential function.

In this paper we introduce the interpolationdegeneration strategy to study KhlerEinstein metrics on a smooth Fano manifold with cone singularities along a smooth divisor that is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor. By interpolation we show the angles in (0, 2] that admit a conical KhlerEinstein metric form a connected interval, and by degeneration we determine the boundary of the interval in some important cases. As a first application, we show that there exists a KhlerEinstein metric on P 2 with cone singularity along a smooth conic (degree 2) curve if and only if the angle is in (/2, 2]. When the angle is 2/3 this proves the existence of a SasakiEinstein metric on the link of a three dimensional <i>A</i> ₂ singularity, and thus answers a question posed by GauntlettMartelliSparksYau.
