In a series of works, one of the authors has developed with J.- M. Hwang a geometric theory of uniruled projective manifolds, especially those of Picard number 1, basing on the study of varieties of minimal rational tangents. A fundamental result in this theory is a principle of analytic continuation under very mild assumptions,called Cartan-Fubini extension, of biholomorphisms between connected open subsets of two Fano manifolds of Picard number 1 which preserve varieties of minimal rational tangents. In this article we develop a generalization of Cartan-Fubini extension for non-equidimensional holomorphic immersions from a connected open subset of a Fano manifold of Picard number 1 into a uniruled projective manifold, under the assumptions that the map sends varieties of minimal rational tangents onto linear sections of varieties of minimal rational tangents and that it satisfies a mild geometric condition formulated in terms of second fundamental forms on varieties of minimal rational tangents. Formerly such a result was known only in the very special case of irreducible Hermitian symmetric manifolds of rank at least two, and the proof relied on the existence of flattening coordinates, viz.,Harish-Chandra coordinates, with respect to which the varieties of minimal rational tangents form a constant family. The proof of the main result, which is based on the deformation theory of rational curves, is differential-geometric in nature and is applicable to the general situation of uniruled projective manifolds without any assumption on the existence of special coordinate systems. As an application, we give a characterization of standard embeddings for certain pairs of rational homogeneous manifolds in terms of embeddings of varieties of minimal rational tangents.

In this paper we prove a global existence theorem, in the direction of cosmological expansion, for sufficiently small perturbations of a family of n + 1-dimensional, spatially compact spacetimes, which generalizes the k = −1 Friedmann–Lemaˆıtre-Robertson– Walker vacuum spacetime. This work extends the result from [3].The background spacetimes we consider are Lorentz cones over negative Einstein spaces of dimension n  3. We use a variant of the constant mean curvature, spatially harmonic (CMCSH) gauge introduced in [2]. An important difference from the 3+1 dimensional case is that one may have a nontrivial moduli space of negative Einstein geometries. This makes it necessary to introduce a time-dependent background metric, which is used to define the spatially harmonic coordinate system that goes into the gauge. Instead of the Bel-Robinson energy used in [3], we here use an expression analogous to the wave equation type of energy introduced in [2] for the Einstein equations in CMCSH gauge. In order to prove energy estimates, it turns out to be necessary to assume stability of the Einstein geometry. Further, for our analysis it is necessary to have a smooth moduli space. Fortunately, all known examples of negative Einstein geometries satisfy these conditions. We give examples of families of Einstein geometries which have nontrivial moduli spaces. A product construction allows one to generate new families of examples. Our results demonstrate causal geodesic completeness of the perturbed spacetimes, in the expanding direction, and show that the scale-free geometry converges toward an element in the moduli space of Einstein geometries, with a rate of decay depending on the stability properties of the Einstein geometry.

We prove the nonexistence of stable immersed minimal surfaces uniformly conformally equivalent to $ \mathbb{C}$ in any complete orientable four-dimensional Riemannian manifold with uniformly positive isotropic curvature. We also generalize the same nonexistence result to higher dimensions provided that the ambient manifold has uniformly positive complex sectional curvature. The proof consists of two parts: assuming an ``eigenvalue condition'' on the $ \overline {\partial }$-operator of a holomorphic bundle, we prove (1) a vanishing theorem for these holomorphic bundles on $ \mathbb{C}$ and (2) an existence theorem for holomorphic sections with controlled growth by Hörmander's weighted $L^2$-method.

We prove that the algebraicmultiplicity of a holomorphic vector field at an isolated singularity is invariant by topological equivalences which are differentiable at the singular point.

For compact Riemannian manifolds all of whose geodesics are closed (aka Zoll manifolds) one can define the determinant of a zeroth order pseudodifferential operator by mimicking Szego’s definition of this determinant for the operator: multiplication by a bounded function, on the Hilbert space of square-integrable functions on the circle. In this paper we prove that the non-local contribution to this determinant can be computed in terms of a much simpler “zeta-regularized” determinant.
