In this article we show that any hyperbolic Inoue surface (also called Inoue-Hirzebruch surface of even type) admits anti-self-dual bihermitian structures. The same result holds for any of its small deformations as far as its anti-canonical system is non-empty. Similar results are obtained for parabolic Inoue surfaces. Our method also yields a family of anti-self-dual hermitian metrics on any half Inoue surface. We use the twistor method of Donaldson-Friedman [13] for the proof.

We identify a strong stability condition on minimal submanifolds that implies uniqueness and dynamical stability properties. In particular, we prove a uniqueness theorem and a dynamical stability theorem of the mean curvature flow for minimal submanifolds that satisfy this condition. The latter theorem states that the mean curvature flow of any other submanifold in a neighborhood of such a minimal submanifold exists for all time, and converges exponentially to the minimal one. This extends our previous uniqueness and stability theorem which applies only to calibrated submanifolds of special holonomy ambient manifolds.

We define analytic torsion (X, E,H) 2 detH•(X, E,H) for the twisted de Rham complex, consisting of the spaces of differential forms on a compact oriented Riemannian manifold X valued in a flat vector bundle E, with a differential given by rE + H ^ · , where rE is a flat connection on E, H is an odd-degree closed differential form on X, and H•(X, E,H) denotes the cohomology of this Z2-graded complex. The definition uses pseudodifferential operators and residue traces. We show that when dimX is odd, (X, E,H) is independent of the choice of metrics on X and E and of the representative H in the cohomology class [H]. We define twisted analytic torsion in the context of generalized geometry and show that when H is a 3-form, the deformation H 7! H−dB, where B is a 2-form on X, is equivalent to deforming a usual metric g to a generalized metric (g,B). We demonstrate some basic functorial properties. When H is a top-degree form, we compute the torsion, define its simplicial counterpart, and prove an analogue of the Cheeger-M¨uller Theorem. We also study the twisted analytic torsion for T -dual circle bundles with integral 3- form fluxes.

We consider surfaces M2 immersed in En c × R, where En c is a simply connected n-dimensional complete Riemannian manifold with constant sectional curvature c 6= 0, and assume that the mean curvature vector of the immersion is parallel in the normal bundle. We consider further a Hopf-type complex quadratic form Q on M2, where the complex structure of M2 is compatible with the induced metric. It is not hard to check that Q is holomorphic (see [3], p.289). We will use this fact to give a reasonable description of immersed surfaces in En c ×R that have parallel mean curvature vector.

In this paper, we sketch the proof of the extension of the stability theorem of the Minkowski space in General Relativity done explicitly in [6] and [7]. We discuss solutions of the Einstein vacuum (EV) equations (obtained in the author’s Ph.D. thesis ([6]) in 2007). We solve the Cauchy problem for more general, asymptotically flat initial data than in the pioneering work of D. Christodoulou and S. Klainerman [21] or than in any other work. Moreover, we describe precisely the asymptotic behavior. Our relaxed assumptions on the initial data yield a spacetime curvature which is not bounded in L1(M). As a major result, we encounter in our work borderline cases, which we discuss in this paper as well. The fact that certain of our estimates are borderline in view of decay indicates that the conditions in our main theorem are sharp in so far as the assumptions on the decay at infinity on the initial data are concerned. Thus, the borderline cases are a consequence of our relaxed assumptions on the data, [6, 7]. They are not present in the other works, as all of them place stronger assumptions on their data. We work with an invariant formulation of the EV equations. Our main proof is based on a bootstrap argument. To close the argument, we have to show that the spacetime curvature and the corresponding geometrical quantities have the required decay. In order to do so, the Einstein equations are decomposed with respect to specific foliations of the spacetime. This result generalizes the work of D. Christodoulou and S. Klainerman [21].
