We consider two natural problems arising in geometry which are equivalent to the local solvability of specific equations of Monge- Amp`ere type. These two problems are: the local isometric embedding problem for two-dimensional Riemannian manifolds, and the problem of locally prescribed Gaussian curvature for surfaces in R3. We prove a general local existence result for a large class of Monge-Amp`ere equations in the plane, and obtain as corollaries the existence of regular solutions to both problems, in the case that the Gaussian curvature vanishes to arbitrary finite order on a single smooth curve.

Deformation quantization and geometric quantization on K\"ahler manifolds give the mathematical description of the algebra of quantum observables and the Hilbert spaces respectively, where the later forms a representation of quantum observables asymptotically via Toeplitz operators. When there is a Hamiltonian $G$-action on a K\"ahler manifold, there are associated symmetries on both the quantum algebra and representation aspects. We show that in nice cases of coadjoint orbits and K\"ahler-Einstein manifolds, these symmetries are strictly compatible (not only asymptotically).

We study the moduli space M of torsion-free G2-structures on a fixed compact manifold M7, and define its associated universal intermediate Jacobian J . We define the Yukawa coupling and relate it to a natural pseudo-K¨ahler structure on J . We consider natural Chern–Simons-type functionals, whose critical points give associative and coassociative cycles (calibrated submanifolds coupled with Yang–Mills connections), and also deformed Donaldson–Thomas connections. We show that the moduli spaces of these structures can be isotropically immersed in J by means of G2-analogues of Abel–Jacobi maps.

Strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds are boundaries of Stein varieties with isolated normal singularities.We prove that any nonconstant CR morphism between two (2n.1)-dimensional strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds lying in an n-dimensional Stein variety with isolated singularities are necessarily a CR biholomorphism. As a corollary, we prove that any nonconstant self map of (2n . 1)-dimensional strongly pseudoconvex CR manifold is a CR automorphism. We also prove that a finite ′etale covering map between two resolutions of isolated normal singularities must be an isomorphism.
