We derive a universal formula for the asymptotic growth of the mean value of three-point coefficient for Warped Conformal Field Theories (WCFTs), and provide a holographic calculation in BTZ black holes. WCFTs are two dimensional quantum field theories featuring a chiral Virasoro and U(1) Kac-Moody algebra, and are conjectured to be holographically dual to quantum gravity on asymptotically AdS3 spacetime with Compere-Song-Strominger boundary conditions. The WCFT calculation amounts to the calculation of one-point functions on torus, whose high temperature limit can be approximated by using modular covariance of WCFT, similar to the derivation of Cardy formula. The bulk process is given by a tadpole diagram, with a massive spinning particle propagates from the infinity to the horizon, and splits into particle and antiparticle which annihilate after going around the horizon of BTZ black holes. The agreement between the bulk and WCFT calculations indicates that the black hole geometries in asymptotically AdS3 spacetimes can emerge upon coarse-graining over microstates in WCFTs, similar to the results of Kraus and Maloney in the context of AdS/CFT.

Consider electromagnetic waves in two-dimensional honeycomb structured media. The properties of transverse electric (TE) polarized waves are determined by the spectral properties of the elliptic operator L^A=-\nabla_x·A(x) \nabla_x, where A(x) is Λ_h− periodic (Λ_h denotes the equilateral triangular lattice), and such that with respect to some origin of coordinates, A(x) is PC− invariant (A(x)=\overline{A(-x)}) and 120° rotationally invariant (A(R*x)=R*A(x)R, where R is a 120° rotation in the plane). We first obtain results on the existence, stability and instability of Dirac points, conical intersections between two adjacent Floquet-Bloch dispersion surfaces. We then show that the introduction through small and slow variations of a domain wall across a line-defect gives rise to the bifurcation from Dirac points of highly robust (topologically protected) edge states. These are time-harmonic solutions of Maxwell's equations which are propagating parallel to the line-defect and spatially localized transverse to it. The transverse localization and strong robustness to perturbation of these edge states is rooted in the protected zero mode of a one-dimensional effective Dirac operator with spatially varying mass term. These results imply the existence of uni-directional propagating edge states for two classes of time-reversal invariant media in which C symmetry is broken: magneto-optic media and bi-anisotropic media. Our analysis applies and extends the tools previously developed in the context of honeycomb Schrödinger operators.

We prove trace class estimates for self-adjoint elliptic operators defined in $\R[n]$ or $\R[]_+$. These estimates are also applicable when a physical system is governed by a wave equation by employing separation of variables to obtain corresponding temporal and spatial Hamiltonians. It is shown, in one important example, that the resulting Hamiltonians are of trace class such that quantum statistics can be applied to the system.

In this paper we study the quantum sheaf cohomology of Grassmannians with deformations of the tangent bundle. Quantum sheaf cohomology is a (0,2) deformation of the ordinary quantum cohomology ring, realized as the OPE ring in A/2-twisted theories. Quantum sheaf cohomology has previously been computed for abelian gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs); here, we study (0,2) deformations of nonabelian GLSMs, for which previous methods have been intractable. Combined with the classical result, the quantum ring structure is derived from the one-loop effective potential. We also utilize recent advances in supersymmetric localization to compute A/2 correlation functions and check the general result in examples. In this paper we focus on physics derivations and examples; in a companion paper, we will provide a mathematically rigorous derivation of the classical sheaf cohomology ring.

In our model of quantum gravity the quantum development of a Cauchy hypersurface is governed by a wave equation derived as the result of a canonical quantization process. To find physically interesting solutions of the wave equation we employ the separation of variables by considering a temporal eigenvalue problem which has a complete countable set of eigenfunctions with positive eigenvalues and also a spatial eigenvalue problem which has a complete set of eigendistributions. Assuming that the Cauchy hypersurface is asymtotically Euclidean we prove that the temporal eigenvalues are also spatial eigenvalues and the product of corresponding eigenfunctions and eigendistributions, which will be smooth functions with polynomial growth, are the physically interesting solutions of the wave equation. We consider these solutions to describe the quantum development of the Cauchy hypersurface.
