We shall consider the following Dirichlet eigenvalue problem on a smooth bounded domain S~ eRn, I where V is a nonnegative function defined on,~. As is well-known, the eigenvalues of problem (1.1) can be interpreted as the energy levels of a particle travelling under an external force field of a potential q in Rn, where and the corresponding eigenfunctions are wave functions of the Schrodinger equation-J~+ qu= lu. Furthermore, the set of eigenvalues {A,} of (1.1) are nonnegative and can be arranged in a nondecreasing order as follows, It is a significant problem to find a lower bound for~, 1 in terms of the geometry of Q. This subject has been studied extensively by many authors. A rather precise bound in the case V== 0 was worked out not only for a bounded domain in but actually valid for a general Riemannian manifold with certain curvature conditions; we refer to [4] for these recent develop-ments. Fractional statistics is one of the most intriguing features of topological phases in 2D. In particular, the so-called non-Abelian statistics plays a crucial role towards realizing universal topological quantum computation. Recently, the study of topological phases has been extended to 3D and it has been proposed that loop-like extensive objects can also carry fractional statistics. In this work, we systematically study the so-called three-loop braiding statistics for loop-like excitations for 3D fermionic topological phases. Most surprisingly, we discovered new types of non-Abelian three-loop braiding statistics that can only be realized in fermionic systems (or equivalently bosonic systems with fermionic particles). The simplest example of such non-Abelian braiding statistics can be realized in interacting fermionic systems with a gauge group Z2×Z8 or Z4×Z4, and the physical origin of non-Abelian statistics can be viewed as attaching an open Majorana chain onto a pair of linked loops, which will naturally reduce to the well known Ising non-Abelian statistics via the standard dimension reduction scheme. Moreover, due to the correspondence between gauge theories with fermionic particles and classifying fermionic symmetry-protected topological (FSPT) phases with unitary symmetries, our study also give rise to an alternative way to classify FSPT phases with unitary symmetries. We further compare the classification results for FSPT phases with arbitrary Abelian total symmetry G^f and find systematical agreement with previous studies using other methods. We believe that the proposed framework of understanding three-loop braiding statistics (including both Abelian and non-Abelian cases) in interacting fermion systems applies for generic fermonic topological phases in 3D.

In this note we discuss a recent proof of the formula for the worldsheet instanton prepotential predicted by Mirror Symmetry for the quintics in <b>P</b>⁴. One of the key ingredients in the proof is the equivariant cohomology groups on the so-called linear sigma model moduli spaces. We introduce the notion of admissible data on the equivariant cohomology groups of the linear sigma model. An admissible data may be thought of as a sequence of equivariant classes satisfying certain algebraic conditions. It arises naturally from Kontsevich's stable map compactification of moduli spaces of maps from curves into projective manifolds. The structures of admissible data help reduce many counting problems to checking certain combinatorial structure of a compactification. The mirror transformation of Candelas et al turns out to be a transformation between two admissible data associated respectively to the linear and the non-linear

We analyze spectral properties of a leaky wire model with a potential bias. It describes a two-dimensional quantum particle exposed to a potential consisting of two parts. One is an attractive -interaction supported by a non-straight, piecewise smooth curve L dividing the plane into two regions of which one, the interior, is convex. The other interaction component is a constant positive potential V0 in one of the regions. We show that in the critical case, V0 = 2, the discrete spectrum is non-void if and only if the bias is supported in the interior. We also analyze the non-critical situations, in particular, we show that in the subcritical case, V0 &lt; 2, the system may have any finite number of bound states provided the angle between the asymptotes of L is small enough.

The paper discusses quantum graphs with a vertex coupling which interpolates between the common one of the type and a coupling introduced recently by two of the authors which exhibits a preferred orientation. Describing the interpolation family in terms of circulant matrices, we analyze the spectral and scattering property of such vertices, and investigate the band spectrum of the corresponding square lattice graph.
