This work is devoted to the study of the foundations of quantum K-theory, a K-theoretic version of quantum cohomology theory. In particular, it gives a deformation of the ordinary K-ring K(X) of a smooth projective variety X, analogous to the relation between quantum cohomology and ordinary cohomology. This new quantum product also gives a new class of Frobenius manifolds.

A method of constructing Cohomological Field Theories (CohFTs) with unit using minimal classes on the moduli spaces of curves is developed. As a simple consequence, CohFTs with unit are found which take values outside of the tautological cohomology of the moduli spaces of curves. A study of minimal classes in low genus is presented in the Appendix by D. Petersen.

The motivation for this paper is the study of arithmetic properties of Shimura varieties, in particular the Newton stratification of the special fiber of a suitable integral model at a prime with parahoric level structure. This is closely related to the structure of RapoportZink spaces and of affine DeligneLusztig varieties. We prove a HodgeNewton decomposition for affine DeligneLusztig varieties and for the special fibers of RapoportZink spaces, relating these spaces to analogous ones defined in terms of Levi subgroups, under a certain condition (HodgeNewton decomposability) which can be phrased in combinatorial terms. Second, we study the Shimura varieties in which every non-basic\sigma-isogeny class is HodgeNewton decomposable. We show that (assuming the axioms of He and Rapoport in Manuscr. From the work of Lian, Liu, and Yau on" Mirror Principle", in the explicit computation of the Euler data Q=\{Q_0, Q_1,...\} for an equivariant concavex bundle Q=\{Q_0, Q_1,...\} over a toric manifold, there are two places the structure of the bundle comes into play:(1) the multiplicative characteric class Q=\{Q_0, Q_1,...\} of Q=\{Q_0, Q_1,...\} one starts with, and (2) the splitting type of Q=\{Q_0, Q_1,...\} . Equivariant bundles over a toric manifold has been classified by Kaneyama, using data related to the linearization of the toric action on the base toric manifold. In this article, we relate the splitting type of Q=\{Q_0, Q_1,...\} to the classifying data of Kaneyama. From these relations, we compute the splitting type of a couple of nonsplittable equivariant vector bundles over toric manifolds that may be of interest to string theory and mirror symmetry. A code in Mathematica that carries out the computation of some of these examples is attached.

In this article we study a conjecture of Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer, which is an analogue of a classical conjecture of Lusztig in the Weyl group case. It concerns the relation between canonical basis and semi-canonical basis through the characteristic cycles. We formulate an approach to this conjecture and prove it for type quiver. In the general type A case, we reduce the conjecture to show that certain nearby cycles have vanishing Euler characteristic.
