The universal R operator for the positive representations of split real quantum groups is computed, generalizing the formula of compact quantum groups forumla by Kirillov–Reshetikhin and Levendorskiĭ–Soibelman, and the formula in the case of forumla by Faddeev, Kashaev, and Bytsko-Teschner. Several new functional relations of the quantum dilogarithm are obtained, generalizing the quantum exponential relations and the pentagon relations. The quantum Weyl element and Lusztig's isomorphism in the positive setting are also studied in detail. Finally, we introduce a C*-algebraic version of the split real quantum group in the language of multiplier Hopf algebras, and consequently the definition of R is made rigorous as the canonical element of the Drinfeld's double U of certain multiplier Hopf algebra Ub. Moreover, a ribbon structure is introduced for an extension of U.

We present a new stabilization technique for multiscale convection diffusion problems. Stabilization for these problems has been a challenging task, especially for the case with high Peclet numbers. Our method is based on a constraint energy minimization idea and the discontinuous Petrov-Galerkin formulation. In particular, the test functions are constructed by minimizing an appropriate energy subject to certain orthogonality conditions, and are related to the trial space. The resulting test functions have a localization property, and can therefore be computed locally. We will prove the stability, and present several numerical results. Our numerical results confirm that our test space gives a good stability, in the sense that the solution error is close to the best approximation error.

It is proved that if the twistor space of a self-dual four-manifold of positive scalar curvature contains a real effective divisor of degree two, then the four-manifold is diffeomorphic to the connected sum n\mathbb {C}{P^ 2} of n complex projective planes for some n. It follows that if the four-manifold is known to be homeomorphic to n\mathbb {C}{P^ 2} , then it is also diffeomorphic to n\mathbb {C}{P^ 2} .

We consider forecasting a single time series when there is a large number of predictors and a possible nonlinear effect. The dimensionality was first reduced via a high-dimensional factor model implemented by the principal component analysis. Using the extracted factors, we develop a novel forecasting method called the sufficient forecasting, which provides a set of sufficient predictive indices, inferred from high-dimensional predictors, to deliver additional predictive power. The projected principal component analysis will be employed to enhance the accuracy of inferred factors when a semi-parametric factor model is assumed. Our method is also applicable to cross-sectional sufficient regression using extracted factors. The connection between the sufficient forecasting and the deep learning architecture is explicitly stated. This is a continuation of the paper [15] on nonlinear boundary layers of the Boltzmann equation where the existence is established and shown to be strongly dependent on the Mach number <i>M</i> ^<i></i> of the Maxwellian state at far field. In this paper, when <i>M</i> ^<i></i>&lt;1, we will show that the linearized operator has the exponential decay in time property and therefore a bootstrapping argument yields nonlinear stability of the boundary layers.
