We study the convergence rate of Glimm scheme for general systems of hyperbolic conservation laws without the assumption that each characteristic field is either genuinely nonlinear or linearly degenerate. We first give a sharper estimate of the error arising from the wave tracing argument by a careful analysis of the interaction between small waves. With this key estimate, the convergence rate is shown to be o (1) s 1 3| ln s| 1+ , which is sharper compared to o (1) s 1 4| ln s| given in [T. Yang, Convergence rate of Glimm scheme for general systems of hyperbolic conservation laws, Taiwanese J. Math. 7 (2)(2003) 195205]. However, it is still slower than o (1) s 1 2| ln s| given in [A. Recent studies have shown that the entropy production rate for the master equation consists of two nonnegative terms: the adiabatic and non-adiabatic parts, where the non-adiabatic part is also known as the dissipation rate of a Boltzmann-Shannon relative entropy. In this paper, we provide some nonzero lower bounds for the relative entropy, the entropy production rate, and its adiabatic and non-adiabatic parts. These nonzero lower bounds not only reveal some novel dissipative properties for general nonequilibrium processes which are much stronger than the second law of thermodynamics, but also impose some new constraints on thermodynamic constitutive relations. Moreover, we also provide a mathematical application of these nonzero lower bounds by studying the long-time behavior of the master equation. Extensions to the Tsallis statistics are also discussed, including the nonzero lower bounds for the Tsallis-type relative entropy and its dissipation rate.

In this paper, we show that any compact Kähler manifold homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature admits a Kähler–Einstein metric of general type. Moreover, we prove that, on a compact symplectic manifold X homotopic to a compact Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature, for any almost complex structure J compatible with the symplectic form, there is no non-constant J-holomorphic entire curve f:C→X.

We show the regularity of, and derive a-priori estimates for (weakly) harmonic maps from a Riemannian manifold into a Euclidean sphere under the assumption that the image avoids some neighborhood of a half-equator. The proofs combine constructions of strictly convex functions and the regularity theory of quasilinear elliptic systems. We apply these results to the spherical and Euclidean Bernstein problems for minimal hypersurfaces, obtaining new conditions under which compact minimal hypersurfaces in spheres or complete minimal hypersurfaces in Euclidean spaces are trivial.
