We treat a free spinless quantum particle moving on a configuration manifold which consists of two identical parts connected in one point. Most attention is paid to the three-dimensional case when these parts are halfspaces with Neumann condition on the boundary; we also discuss briefly a more general boundary conditions. The class of admissible Hamiltonians is constructed by means of the theory of self-adjoint extensions. Among them, particularly important is a two-parameter family whose elements are invariant with respect to exchange of the halfspaces; we compute the transmission coefficient for each of these extensions. We discuss also the motion on two planes considered in our recent paper, obtaining another characterization of the admissible Hamiltonians. In conclusion, the two situations are compared as models for point-contact spectroscopical experiments in thin metal films.

Brain Cortical surface registration is required for inter-subject studies of functional and anatomical data. Harmonic mapping has been applied for brain mapping, due to its existence, uniqueness, regularity and numerical stability. In order to improve the registration accuracy, sculcal landmarks are usually used as constraints for brain registration. Unfortunately, constrained harmonic mappings may not be diffeomorphic and produces invalid registration. This work conquer this problem by changing the Riemannian metric on the target cortical surface to a hyperbolic metric, so that the harmonic mapping is guaranteed to be a diffeomorphism while the landmark constraints are enforced as boundary matching condition. The computational algorithms are based on the Ricci flow method and hyperbolic heat diffusion. Experimental results demonstrate that, by changing the Riemannian metric, the registrations are

Weyl points are degenerate points on the spectral bands at which energy bands intersect conically. They are the origins of many novel physical phenomena and have attracted much attention recently. In this paper, we investigate the existence of such points in the spectrum of the 3-dimensional Schrödinger operator H=−Δ+V(x) with V(x) being in a large class of periodic potentials. Specifically, we give very general conditions on the potentials which ensure the existence of 3-fold Weyl points on the associated energy bands. Different from 2-dimensional honeycomb structures which possess Dirac points where two adjacent band surfaces touch each other conically, the 3-fold Weyl points are conically intersection points of two energy bands with an extra band sandwiched in between. To ensure the 3-fold and 3-dimensional conical structures, more delicate, new symmetries are required. As a consequence, new techniques combining more symmetries are used to justify the existence of such conical points under the conditions proposed. This paper provides comprehensive proof of such 3-fold Weyl points. In particular, the role of each symmetry endowed to the potential is carefully analyzed. Our proof extends the analysis on the conical spectral points to a higher dimension and higher multiplicities. We also provide some numerical simulations on typical potentials to demonstrate our analysis.

This paper introduces a new central trapdoor for multivariate quadratic (MQ) public-key cryptosystems that allows for encryption, in contrast to time-tested MQ primitives such as Unbalanced Oil and Vinegar or Hidden Field Equations which only allow for signatures. Our construction is a mixed-field scheme that exploits the commutativity of the extension field to dramatically reduce the complexity of the extension field polynomial implicitly present in the public key. However, this reduction can only be performed by the user who knows concise descriptions of two simple polynomials, which constitute the private key. After applying this transformation, the plaintext can be recovered by solving a linear system. We use the minus and projection modifiers to inoculate our scheme against known attacks. A straightforward C++ implementation confirms the efficient operation of the public key algorithms.
