Computational conformal geometry focuses on developing the computational methodologies on discrete surfaces to discover conformal geometric invariants. In this work, we briefly summarize the recent developments for methods and related applications in computational conformal geometry. There are two major approaches, holomorphic differentials and curvature flow. The holomorphic differential method is a linear method, which is more efficient and robust to triangulations with lower quality. The curvature flow method is nonlinear and requires higher quality triangulations, but more flexible. The conformal geometric methods have been broadly applied in many engineering fields, such as computer graphics, vision, geometric modeling and medical imaging. Injecting a single hole into a one-dimensional Heisenberg spin chain is probably the simplest case of doping a Mott insulator. The motion of such a single hole will generally induce a many-body phase shift, which can be identified by an exact sign structure of the model known as the phase string. We show that the sign structure is nontrivial even in this simplest problem, which is responsible for the essential properties of Mott physics. We find that the characteristic momentum structure, the Luttinger liquid behavior, and the quantum phase interference of the hole under a periodic boundary condition, can all be attributed to it. We use the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) numerical simulation to make a comparative study of the t-J chain and a model in which the sign structure is switched off. We further show that the key DMRG results can be reproduced by a variational wave function with incorporating the correct sign structure. Physical implications of the sign structure for doped Mott insulators in general are also discussed.

This paper deals with the merging problem, i.e. to approximate two adjacent Bézier curves by a single Bézier curve. A novel approach for approximate merging is introduced in the paper by using the constrained optimization method. The basic idea of this method is to find conditions for the precise merging of Bézier curves first, and then compute the constrained optimization solution by moving the control points. “Discrete” coefficient norm in L2 sense and “squared difference integral” norm are used in our method. Continuity at the endpoints of curves are considered in the merging process, and approximate merging with points constraints are also discussed. Further, it is shown that the degree elevation of original Bézier curves will reduce the merging error.

We consider Schrdinger operators in L2(R3) with a singular interaction supported by a finite curve . We present a proper definition of the operators and study their properties, in particular, we show that the discrete spectrum can be empty if is short enough. If it is not the case, we investigate properties of the eigenvalues in the situation when the curve has a hiatus of length 2. We derive an asymptotic expansion with the leading term which a multiple of ln.
