We discuss approximations of the vertex coupling on a star-shaped quantum graph of n edges in the singular case when the wave functions are not continuous at the vertex and no edge-permutation symmetry is present. It is shown that the CheonShigehara technique using interactions with nonlinearly scaled couplings yields a 2n-parameter family of boundary conditions in the sense of norm resolvent topology. Moreover, using graphs with additional edges, one can approximate the {n+1\choose 2}-parameter family of all time-reversal invariant couplings.

We demonstrate a one-dimensional magnetic system can exhibit a Cantor-type spectrum using an example of a chain graph with coupling at the vertices exposed to a magnetic field perpendicular to the graph plane and varying along the chain. If the field grows linearly with an irrational slope, measured in terms of the flux through the loops of the chain, we demonstrate the character of the spectrum relating it to the almost Mathieu operator.

We study spectral properties of a spinless quantum particle confined to an infinite planar layer with hard walls, which interacts with a periodic lattice of point perturbations and a homogeneous magnetic field perpendicular to the layer. It is supposed that the lattice cell contains a finite number of impurities and the flux through the cell is rational. Using the Landau-Zak transformation, we convert the problem into investigation of the corresponding fiber operators which is performed by means of Krein's formula. This yields an explicit description of the spectral bands, which may be absolutely continuous or degenerate, depending on the parameters of the model.
