We study variants of the local models constructed by the second author and Zhu and consider corresponding integral models of Shimura varieties of abelian type. We determine all cases of good, resp. of semi-stable, reduction under tame ramification hypotheses.

This volume contains the written account of the Bonn seminar on arith-metic geometry 2003/2004. It gives a coherent exposition of the theory of intersections of modular correspondences. The focus of the seminar is the formula for the intersection number of arithmetic modular correspondences due to Gross and Keating. Other topics treated are Hurwitz's theorem on the intersection of modular correspondences over the field of complex numbers, and the relation of the arithmetic intersection numbers to Fourier coefficients of Siegel-Eisenstein series. Also included is background material on one-dimensional formal groups and their endomorphisms, and on quadratic forms over the ring of p-adic integers.

Let X be an equivariant embedding of a connected reductive group X over an algebraically closed field X of positive characteristic. Let X denote a Borel subgroup of X . A X -Schubert variety in X is a subvariety of the form $\diag (G)\cdot V $, where X is a X -orbit closure in X . In the case where X is the wonderful compactification of a group of adjoint type, the X -Schubert varieties are the closures of Lusztig's X -stable pieces. We prove that X admits a Frobenius splitting which is compatible with all X -Schubert varieties. Moreover, when X is smooth, projective and toroidal, then any X -Schubert variety in X admits a stable Frobenius splitting along an ample divisors. Although this indicates that X -Schubert varieties have nice singularities we present an example of a non-normal X -Schubert variety in the wonderful compactification of a group of type X . Finally we also extend the Frobenius splitting results to the more general class of X -Schubert varieties.

We determine a basis of the (twisted) cocenter of graded affine Hecke algebras with arbitrary parameters. In this setting, we prove that the kernel of the (twisted) trace map is the commutator subspace (Density theorem) and that the image is the space of good forms (trace Paley-Wiener theorem).

The cocenter of an affine Hecke algebra plays an important role in the study of representations of the affine Hecke algebra and the geometry of affine DeligneLusztig varieties (see for example, He and Nie in Compos Math 150(11):19031927, 2014; He in Ann Math 179:367404, 2014; Ciubotaru and He in Cocenter and representations of affine Hecke algebras, 2014). In this paper, we give a BernsteinLusztig type presentation of the cocenter. We also obtain a comparison theorem between the class polynomials of the affine Hecke algebra and those of its parabolic subalgebras, which is an algebraic analog of the HodgeNewton decomposition theorem for affine DeligneLusztig varieties. As a consequence, we present a new proof of the emptiness pattern of affine DeligneLusztig varieties (Grtz et al. in Compos Math 146(5):13391382, 2010; Grtz et al. in Ann Sci cole Norm Sup, 2012).
