By introducing some special bi-orthogonal polynomials, we derive the so-called discrete hungry quotient-difference (dhQD) algorithm and a system related to the QD-type discrete hungry LotkaVolterra (QD-type dhLV) system, together with their Lax pairs. These two known equations can be regarded as extensions of the QD algorithm. When this idea is applied to a higher analogue of the discrete-time Toda (HADT) equation and the quotientquotient-difference (QQD) scheme proposed by Spicer, Nijhoff and van der Kamp, two extended systems are constructed. We call these systems the hungry forms of the higher analogue discrete-time Toda (hHADT) equation and the quotient-quotient-difference (hQQD) scheme, respectively. In addition, the corresponding Lax pairs are provided.

In two recent papers by Barry (2010) [29] and (2011) [30], it is conjectured that Somos-4 admits a solution expressed in terms of Hankel determinant with its elements satisfying a convolution recursion relation. In this paper, Barrys conjecture on Somos-4 is firstly confirmed. Actually, we present a more generalized result. The proof is mainly based on new findings on properties for so-called BlockHankel determinants. The method can also be used to prove another conjecture proposed by Michael Somos, which has been solved by Guoce Xin.

Skew-orthogonal polynomials (SOPs) arise in the study of the <i>n</i>-point distribution function for orthogonal and symplectic random matrix ensembles. Motivated by the average of characteristic polynomials of the Bures random matrix ensemble studied in Forrester and Kieburg (Commun Math Phys 342(1):151187, 2016), we propose the concept of <i>partial-skew-orthogonal polynomials</i> (PSOPs) as a modification of the SOPs, and then the PSOPs with a variety of special skew-symmetric kernels and weight functions are addressed. By considering appropriate deformations of the weight functions, we derive nine integrable lattices in different dimensions. As a consequence, the tau-functions for these systems are shown to be expressed in terms of Pfaffians and the wave vectors PSOPs. The molecule solution of an extended discrete LotkaVolterra equation is constructed, from which a new sequence transformation is proposed. A convergence acceleration algorithm for implementing this sequence transformation is found. It is shown that our new sequence transformation accelerates some kinds of linearly convergent sequences and factorially convergent sequences with good numerical stability. Some numerical examples are also presented.

<i>Peakons</i> are special weak solutions of a class of nonlinear partial differential equations modelling non-linear phenomena such as the breakdown of regularity and the onset of shocks. We show that the natural concept of weak solutions in the case of the modified CamassaHolm equation studied in this paper is dictated by the distributional compatibility of its Lax pair and, as a result, it differs from the one proposed and used in the literature based on the concept of weak solutions used for equations of the Burgers type. Subsequently, we give a complete construction of peakon solutions satisfying the modified CamassaHolm equation in the sense of distributions; our approach is based on solving certain inverse boundary value problem, the solution of which hinges on a combination of classical techniques of analysis involving Stieltjes continued fractions and multi-point Pad approximations. We propose
