In this paper, we solve a problem of Kobayashi posed in (Complex Finsler vector bundles, American Mathematical Society, Providence, 1996) by introducing a Donaldson type functional on the space F + ( E ) of strongly pseudo-convex complex Finsler metrics on <i>E</i>a holomorphic vector bundle over a closed Khler manifold <i>M</i>. This Donaldson type functional is a generalization in the complex Finsler geometry setting of the original Donaldson functional and has FinslerEinstein metrics on <i>E</i> as its only critical points, at which this functional attains the absolute minimum.

In this paper we establish the local-in-time existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to the free boundary problem of the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations in three-dimensional space. The vanishing density and temperature condition is imposed on the free boundary, which captures the motions of the non-isentropic viscous gas surrounded by vacuum with bounded entropy. We also assume some proper decay rates of the density towards the boundary and singularities of derivatives of the temperature across the boundary on the initial data, which coincides with the physical vacuum condition for the isentropic flows. This extends the previous result of Liu [arXiv: 1612.07936] by removing the spherically symmetric assumption and considering more general initial density and temperature profiles.

For a one parameter family of Calabi-Yau threefolds, Green et al. (2009) expressed the total singularities in terms of the degrees of Hodge bundles and Euler number of the general fiber. In this paper, we show that the total singularities can be expressed by the sum of asymptotic values of BCOV (Bershadsky-Cecotti-Ooguri-Vafa) invariants, studied by Fang et al. (2008). On the other hand, by using Yau's Schwarz lemma, we prove Arakelov type inequalities and Euler number bound for Calabi-Yau family over a compact Riemann surface.

Due to the orbifold singularities, the intersection numbers on the moduli space of curves Mg, n are in general rational numbers rather than integers. We study the properties of the denominators of these intersection numbers and their relationship with the orders of automorphism groups of stable curves. We also present a conjecture about a multinomial type numerical property for a general class of Hodge integrals.
