Parameterizations of manifolds are widely applied to the fields of numerical partial differential equations and computer graphics. To this end, in recent years several efficient and reliable numerical algorithms have been developed by different research groups for the computation of triangular and tetrahedral mesh parameterizations. However, it is still challenging when the topology of manifolds is nontrivial, e.g., the 3-manifold of a topological solid torus. In this paper, we propose a novel volumetric stretch energy minimization algorithm for volume-preserving parameterizations of toroidal polyhedra with a single boundary being mapped to a standard torus. In addition, the algorithm can also be used to compute the equiareal mapping between a genus-one closed surface and the standard torus. Numerical experiments indicate that the developed algorithm is effective and performs well on the bijectivity of the mapping. Applications on manifold registrations and partitions are demonstrated to show the robustness of our algorithms.

Let X be a smooth, projective, geometrically connected curve over a finite field Fq, and let G be a split semisimple algebraic group over Fq. Its dual group Gˆ is a split reductive group over Z. Conjecturally, any l-adic Gˆ-local system on X (equivalently, any conjugacy class of continuous homomorphisms π1(X)→Gˆ(Q¯¯¯¯l)) should be associated with an everywhere unramified automorphic representation of the group G. We show that for any homomorphism π1(X)→Gˆ(Q¯¯¯¯l) of Zariski dense image, there exists a finite Galois cover Y→X over which the associated local system becomes automorphic.

Consider a normal model with unknown mean bounded by a known constant. This paper deals with minimax estimation of the squared mean. We establish an expression for the asymptotic minimax risk. This result is applied in nonparametric estimation of quadratic functionals.

Let<i>M</i> be a space-time whose local mass density is non-negative everywhere. Then we prove that the total mass of<i>M</i> as viewed from spatial infinity (the ADM mass) must be positive unless<i>M</i> is the flat Minkowski space-time. (So far we are making the reasonable assumption of the existence of a maximal spacelike hypersurface. We will treat this topic separately.) We can generalize our result to admit wormholes in the initial-data set. In fact, we show that the total mass associated with each asymptotic regime is non-negative with equality only if the space-time is flat.

This Paper is aimed to study a generalization of the Catlan Conjecture (The only nontrivial solution to& x^m-y^n=1& is x=3,m=2,y=2,n=3), that is, to determine the nontrivial solutions to& x^m-2y^n=1&. To solve this problem, I study some arithmetic properties of the solutions to Pell equation, or more precisely, when the minimum solution is fixed, the properties about factors of the recursive solutions to the equation. Furthermore, I apply these properties into the study of& x^m-2y^n=1& and obtain some successful results when n is restricted to be even. What’s more, some applications of these arithmetic properties in other problems are contained in the paper as well.
