Next-generation sequencing technology enables the routine detection of bacterial pathogens for clinical diagnostics and genetic research. Whole-genome sequencing has been of importance in the epidemiologic analysis of bacterial pathogens. However, few whole-genome sequencing-based genotyping pipelines are available for practical applications. Here, we present the whole-genome sequencing-based single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) genotyping method and apply to the evolutionary analysis of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The SNP genotyping method calls genome variants using next-generation sequencing reads of whole genomes and calculates the pair-wise Jaccard distances of the genome variants. The method may reveal the high-resolution whole-genome SNP profiles and the structural variants of different isolates of methicillin-resistant S. aureus(MRSA) and methicillin-susceptible S. aureus(MSSA) strains. The phylogenetic analysis of whole genomes and particular regions may monitor and track the evolution and the transmission dynamic of bacterial pathogens. Let<i>M</i> be a space-time whose local mass density is non-negative everywhere. Then we prove that the total mass of<i>M</i> as viewed from spatial infinity (the ADM mass) must be positive unless<i>M</i> is the flat Minkowski space-time. (So far we are making the reasonable assumption of the existence of a maximal spacelike hypersurface. We will treat this topic separately.) We can generalize our result to admit wormholes in the initial-data set. In fact, we show that the total mass associated with each asymptotic regime is non-negative with equality only if the space-time is flat.

Finding surface mappings with least distortion arises from many applications in various fields. Extremal Teichmüller maps are surface mappings with least conformality distortion. The existence and uniqueness of the extremal Teichmüller map between Riemann surfaces of finite type are theoretically guaranteed (see Fletcher and Markovic, Quasiconformal maps and Teichmüller theory, Oxford Graduate Texts in Math., vol. 11, Oxford University Press, Oxford, 2007). Recently, a simple iterative algorithm for computing the Teichmüller maps between connected Riemann surfaces with given boundary value was proposed by Lui, Lam, Yau, and Gu in Teichmüller extremal mapping and its applications to landmark matching registration, arXiv:1211.2569. Numerical results were reported in the paper to show the effectiveness of the algorithm. The method was successfully applied to landmarkmatching registration. The purpose of this paper is to prove the iterative algorithm proposed in loc. cit., indeed converges.
