In this paper, we prove the global rigidity of sphere packings on 3-dimensional manifolds. This is a 3-dimensional analogue of the rigidity theorem of Andreev-Thurston and was conjectured by Cooper and Rivin. We also prove a global rigidity result using a combinatorial scalar curvature introduced by Ge and the author.

Let F be a non-Archimedean local field. This paper studies homological properties of irreducible smooth representations restricted from GLn+1(F) to GLn(F). A main result shows that each Bernstein component of an irreducible smooth representation of GLn+1(F) restricted to GLn(F) is indecomposable. We also classify all irreducible representations which are projective when restricting from GLn+1(F) to GLn(F). A main tool of our study is a notion of left and right derivatives, extending some previous work joint with Gordan Savin. As a by-product, we also determine the branching law in the opposite direction.

On a compact K¨ahler manifold we introduce a cohomological obstruction to the solvability of the constant scalar curvature (cscK) equation twisted by a semipositive form, appearing in works of Fine and Song-Tian. As a special case we find an obstruction for a manifold to be the base of a holomorphic submersion carrying a cscK metric in certain “adiabatic” classes. We apply this to find new examples of general type threefolds with classes which do not admit a cscK representative. When the twist vanishes our obstruction extends the slope stability of Ross-Thomas to effective divisors on a K¨ahler manifold. Thus we find examples of non-projective slope unstable manifolds.

We introduce a random recursive method for constructing random Salem sets in$R$^{d}. The method is inspired by Salem's construction [13] of certain signular monotonic functions.

The DK Flip Conjecture of Bondal-Orlov and Kawamata states that there should be an embedding of derived categories for any flip, which is known to be true for toroidal flips. In this paper, we construct new examples of Grassmannian flips that satisfy the DK Flip Conjecture.
