In this paper, we consider the continuity property of pseudo-differential operators with symbols whose Fourier transforms have compact support. As applications, we obtain the$L$^{$p$}-boundedness for symbols in Besov spaces and in modulation spaces.

Since the development of Yee scheme back in 1966, it has become one of the most popular simulation tools for modeling electromagnetic wave propagation in various situations.However, its rigorous error analysis on nonuniform rectangular type gridswas carried out until 1994 by Monk and Süli. They showed that theYee scheme is still second-order convergent on a nonuniform mesh even though the local truncation error is only of first order. In this paper, we extend their results to Maxwell’s equations in metamaterials by a simpler proof, and show the second-order superconvergence in space for the trueYee scheme instead of the only semi-discrete form discussed in Monk and Süli’s original work. Numerical results supporting our analysis are presented.

In this paper we show by example that there is no uniform estimate for the L p-Minkowski problem. As a result we obtain the nonuniqueness of solutions to the problem.

The sine-Gordon (SG) equation and perturbed nonlinear Schrdinger (NLS) equations are studied numerically for modeling the propagation of two space dimensional (2D) localized pulses (the so-called <i>light bullets</i>) in nonlinear dispersive optical media. We begin with the (2+1) SG equation obtained as an asymptotic reduction in the two level dissipationless MaxwellBloch system, followed by the review on the perturbed NLS equation in 2D for SG pulse envelopes, which is globally well posed and has all the relevant higher order terms to regularize the collapse of standard critical (cubic focusing) NLS. The perturbed NLS is approximated by truncating the nonlinearity into finite higher order terms undergoing focusingdefocusing cycles. In this paper, we are concerned with the motion of electrically conducting fluid governed by the two-dimensional non-isentropic viscous compressible MHD system on the half plane with no-slip condition on the velocity field, perfectly conducting wall condition on the magnetic field and Dirichlet boundary condition on the temperature on the boundary. When the viscosity, heat conductivity and magnetic diffusivity coefficients tend to zero in the same rate, there is a boundary layer which is described by a Prandtl-type system. Under the non-degeneracy condition on the tangential magnetic field instead of monotonicity of velocity, by applying a coordinate transformation in terms of the stream function of magnetic field as motivated by the recent work [27], we obtain the local-in-time well-posedness of the boundary layer system in weighted Sobolev spaces.
