The compressible Euler equations, which govern the gas flow surrounding a solid ball with mass M and frictional damping in n dimensions, t+(u)= 0,(u) t+ (u u)+ P ()=-Mx/| x| n-2u, where , u, P and M are the density, velocity, pressure and mass of the gas, respectively, n 3 is the dimension of x, and > 0 is the frictional constant, are examined. The pressure is assumed to satisfy the law and 12 , K is a positive constant. The existence and non-existence of global smooth solutions are studied for the initial boundary problem of the Euler equations.

In this paper we present an {\em a priori} error estimate of the Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin method for solving symmetrizable conservation laws, where the time is discretized with the third order explicit total variation diminishing Runge-Kutta method and the finite element space is made up of piecewise polynomials of degree $k\geq 2$. Quasi-optimal error estimate is obtained by energy techniques, for the so-called generalized E-fluxes under the standard temporal-spatial CFL condition $\tau\leq\gamma h$, where $h$ is the element length and $\tau$ is time step, and $\gamma$ is a positive constant independent of $h$ and $\tau$. Optimal estimates are also considered when the upwind numerical flux is used.

We show that interpolation to a function, analytic on a compact set$E$in the complex plane, can yield maximal convergence only if a subsequence of the interpolation points converges to the equilibrium distribution on$E$in the weak sense. Furthermore, we will derive a converse theorem for the case when the measure associated with the interpolation points converges to a measure on$E$, which may be different from the equilibrium measure.
