Recently, Huang, Lutwak, Yang & Zhang discovered the duals of Federer’s curvature measures within the dual Brunn-Minkowski theory and stated the “Minkowski problem” associated with these new measures. As they showed, this dual Minkowski problem has as special cases the Aleksandrov problem (when the index is 0) and the logarithmic Minkowski problem (when the index is the dimension of the ambient space)—two problems that were never imagined to be connected in any way. Huang, Lutwak, Yang & Zhang established sufficient conditions to guarantee existence of solution to the dual Minkowski problem in the even setting. In this work, existence of solution to the even dual Minkowski problem is established under new sufficiency conditions. It was recently shown by B ̈or ̈oczky, Henk & Pollehn that these new sufficiency conditions are also necessary.

We identify a strong stability condition on minimal submanifolds that implies uniqueness and dynamical stability properties. In particular, we prove a uniqueness theorem and a dynamical stability theorem of the mean curvature flow for minimal submanifolds that satisfy this condition. The latter theorem states that the mean curvature flow of any other submanifold in a neighborhood of such a minimal submanifold exists for all time, and converges exponentially to the minimal one. This extends our previous uniqueness and stability theorem which applies only to calibrated submanifolds of special holonomy ambient manifolds.

In this paper, we consider the initial boundary value problem in a cylindrical domain to the three dimensional primitive equations with full eddy viscosity in the momentum equations but with only horizontal eddy diffusivity in the temperature equation. Global well-posedness of $z$-weak solution is established for any such initial datum that itself and its vertical derivative belong to $L^2$. This not only extends the results in \cite{Cao5} from the spatially periodic case to general cylindrical domains but also weakens the regularity assumptions on the initial data which are required to be $H^2$ there.

We obtain sharp integral potential bounds for gradients of solutions to a wide class of quasilinear elliptic equations with measure data. Our estimates are global over bounded domains that satisfy a mild exterior capacitary density condition. They are obtained in Lorentz spaces whose degrees of integrability lie below or near the natural exponent of the operator involved. As a consequence, nonlinear Calderón–Zygmund type estimates below the natural exponent are also obtained for $\mathcal{A}$ -superharmonic functions in the whole space ℝ^{$n$}. This answers a question raised in our earlier work (On Calderón–Zygmund theory for$p$- and $\mathcal{A}$ -superharmonic functions, to appear in$Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations$, DOI10.1007/s00526-011-0478-8) and thus greatly improves the result there.

The weak well-posedness of strong damping wave equations defined by fractal Laplacians is proved by using Galerkin method. These fractal Laplacians are defined by self-similar measures with overlaps, such as the well-known infinite Bernoulli convolution associated with the golden ratio, the three-fold convolution of the Cantor measure, and a class of self-similar measures that we call essentially of finite type. In general, the structure of self-similar measures with overlap are complicated and intractable. However, some important information about the structure of the three measures above can be obtained. We make use of these information to set up a framework for one-dimensional measures to discretize the equations, and use the finite element and central difference methods to obtain numerical approximations of the weak solutions. We also show that the numerical solutions converge to the actual solution and obtain the rate of convergence.
