In this paper, we give a condition on the bicharacteristic which guarantees the global existence of the mild solution to the Boltzmann equation with an external force for the hard-sphere model and potentials with angular cutoff in infinite vacuum. This generalizes the previous results to the case when the force can have arbitrary strength. The constructive condition on the bicharacteristic is used to obtain the pointwise estimates on the collision operator so that the global existence comes from the contraction mapping theorem.

In this paper we study some boundary operators of a class of Bessel-type Littlewood-Paley extensions whose prototype is $$ \alignat 2 \Delta_xu(x,y)+\frac{1-2s}{y}\frac{\partial u}{\partial y}(x,y)+\frac{\partial^2u}{\partial y^2}(x,y)&=0&&\qquad\text{for}\ x\in\Bbb{R}^dd,\ y>0,\\u(x,0)&=f(x)&&\qquad\text{for}\ x\in\Bbb{R}^d. \endalignat $$ In particular, we show that with a logarithmic scaling one can capture the failure of analyticity of these extensions in the limiting cases $s=k\in\Bbb{N}$.

The purpose of this paper is to provide global existence and uniqueness results for a family of fluid transport equations by establishing convergence results for the particle method applied to these equations. The considered family of PDEs is a collection of strongly nonlinear equations which yield traveling wave solutions and can be used to model a variety of flows in fluid dynamics. We apply a particle method to the studied evolutionary equations and provide a new self-contained method for proving its convergence. The latter is accomplished by using the concept of space-time bounded variation and the associated compactness properties. From this result, we prove the existence of a unique global weak solution in some special cases and obtain stronger regularity properties of the solution than previously established.

In this paper, we study the Li stability of perturbation of constant states for 2 x 2 systems of conservation laws. We introduce a nonlinear functional which is equivalent to the Li norm of the difference between the constant state and the approximate solutions consisting of elementary waves and is non-increasing in time for the limiting weak solution. This yields the Li stability of the constant states. The approximate solutions are constructed with the aid of wave tracing for the random choice method. Our functional reveals the aspects of nonlinear wave behavior, particularly the coupling of waves pertaining to different characteristic families, which affects the Li norm of the solutions.
