We consider the Schrödinger equation with a nondispersive logarithmic nonlinearity and a repulsive harmonic potential. For a suitable range of the coefficients, there exist two positive stationary solutions, each one generating a continuous family of solitary waves. These solutions are Gaussian, and turn out to be orbitally unstable. We also discuss the notion of ground state in this setting: for any natural definition, the set of ground states is empty.

In this paper, we study the nonlinear stability of travelling wave solutions with shock profile for a relaxation model with a nonconvex flux, which is proposed by Jin and Xin [<i>Comm. Pure Appl. Math.</i>, 48 (1995), pp. 555--563] to approximate an original hyperbolic system numerically under the subcharacteristic condition introduced by T. P. Liu [<i>Comm. Math. Phys.</i>, 108 (1987), pp. 153--175]. The travelling wave solutions with strong shock profile are shown to be asymptotically stable under small disturbances with integral zero using an elementary but technical energy method. Proofs involve detailed study of the error equation for disturbances using the same weight function introduced in [<i>Comm. Math. Phys.</i>, 165 (1994), pp. 83--96].

In this paper we study the zero-viscosity limit of 2-D Boussinesq equations with vertical viscosity and zero diffusivity, which is a nonlinear system with partial dissipation arising in atmospheric sciences and oceanic circulation. The domain is taken as R2+ with Navier-type boundary. We prove the nonlinear stability of the approximate solution constructed by boundary layer expansion in conormal Sobolev space. The optimal expansion order and convergence rates for the inviscid limit are also identified in this paper. Our paper extends the partial zero-dissipation limit results of Boussinesq system with full dissipation by Chae D. [Adv.Math.203,no.2,2006] in the whole space to the case with partial dissipation and Navier boundary in the half plane.

In this paper, we study a class of analytical solutions to the 3-D compressible Navier-Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity coefficients, where the shear viscosity h ( ) = 0 , and the bulk viscosity g ( ) = ( &gt; 0 ). By constructing a class of radial symmetric and self-similar analytical solutions in R N ( N 2 ) with both the continuous density condition and the stress free condition across the free boundaries separating the fluid from vacuum, we derive that the free boundary expands outward in the radial direction at an algebraic rate in time and we also have shown that such solutions exhibit interesting new information such as the formation of a vacuum at the center of the symmetry as time tends to infinity and explicit regularities, and we have large time decay estimates of the velocity

The purpose of this research monograph is to survey some recent developments in the analysis of shock reflection-diffraction, to present our original mathematical proofs of von Neumann’s conjectures for potential flow, to collect most of the related results and new techniques in the analysis of partial differential equations achieved in the last decades, and to discuss a set of fundamental open problems relevant to the directions of future research in this and related areas.
