We establish the solvability of second order divergence-type parabolic systems in Sobolev spaces. The leading coefficients are assumed to be merely measurable in one spatial direction on each small parabolic cylinder with the spatial direction allowed to depend on the cylinder. In the other orthogonal directions and the time variable, the coefficients have locally small mean oscillations. We also obtain the corresponding $W^1_p$-solvability of second order elliptic systems in divergence form. This type of system arises from the problems of linearly elastic laminates and composite materials. Our results are new even for scalar equations, and the proofs differ from and simplify the methods used previously in [H. Dong and D. Kim, <i>Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal.</i>, 196 (2010), pp. 2570]. For the Boltzmann equation with an external force in the form of the gradient of a potential function in space variable, the stability of its stationary solutions as local Maxwellians was studied by S. Ukai et al. (2005) through the energy method. Based on this stability analysis and some techniques on analyzing the convergence rates to station- ary solutions for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations, in this paper, we study the convergence rate to the above stationary solutions for the Boltzmann equation which is a fundamental equation in statistical physics for non-equilibrium rarefied gas. By combining the dissipation from the viscosity and heat conductivity on the fluid components and the dissipation on the non-fluid component through the celebrated H-theorem, a convergence rate of the same order as the one for the compressible Navier-Stokes is obtained by constructing some

In this paper, we prove two existence results of solutions to mean field equations Δu+e^u=ρδ_0 and Δu=λe^u(e^u−1)+4π\sum_{j=1}^M δ_{p_j} on an arbitrary connected finite graph, where ρ>0 and λ>0 are constants, M is a positive integer, and p_1,…,p_M are arbitrarily chosen distinct vertices on the graph.

In the paper, we study the three-dimensional Prandtl equations, and prove that if one component of the tangential velocity field satisfies the monotonicity assumption in the normal direction, then the system is locally well-posed in the Gevrey function space with Gevrey index in ] 1, 2]. The proof relies on some new cancellation mechanism in the system in addition to those observed in the two-dimensional setting.
