The purpose of this paper is to study the dynamics of the interaction among a special class of solutions of the one-dimensional Camassa–Holm equation. The equation yields soliton solutions whose identity is preserved through nonlinear interactions. These solutions are characterized by a discontinuity at the peak in the wave shape and are thus called peakon solutions. We apply a particle method to the Camassa–Holm equation and show that the nonlinear interaction among the peakon solutions resembles an elastic collision, i.e., the total energy and momentum of the system before the peakon interaction is equal to the total energy and momentum of the system after the collision. From this result, we provide several numerical illustrations which support the analytical study, as well as showcase the merits of using a particle method to simulate solutions to the Camassa–Holm equation under a wide class of initial data.

G-equations are well-known front propagation models in turbulent combustion which describe the front motion law in the form of local normal velocity equal to a constant (laminar speed) plus the normal projection of fluid velocity. In level set formulation, G-equations are HamiltonJacobi equations with convex (<i>L</i> ¹ type) but non-coercive Hamiltonians. Viscous G-equations arise from either numerical approximations or regularizations by small diffusion. The nonlinear eigenvalue $${\bar H}$$ from the cell problem of the viscous G-equation can be viewed as an approximation of the inviscid turbulent flame speed <i>s</i> _T. We consider a strictly hyperbolic, genuinely nonlinear system of conservation laws in one space dimension. A sharp decay estimate is proved for the positive waves in an entropy weak solution. The result is stated in terms of a partial ordering among positive measures, using symmetric rearrangements and a comparison with a solution of Burgers's equation with impulsive sources.

We consider the kinetic Fokker-Planck equation with a class of general force. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a positive normalized equilibrium (in the case of a gen- eral force) and establish some exponential rate of convergence to the equilibrium (and the rate can be explicitly computed). Our results improve results about classical force to general force case. Our result also improve the rate of convergence for the Fitzhugh-Nagumo equation from non-quantitative to quantitative explicit rate.
