This work is devoted to study the global behavior of viscous flows contained in a symmetric domain with complete slip boundary. In such scenario the boundary no longer provides friction and therefore the perturbation of angular velocity lacks decaying structure. In fact, we show the existence of uniformly rotating solutions as steady states for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. By manipulating the conservation law of angular momentum, we establish a suitable Korn's type inequality to control the perturbation and show the asymptotic stability of the uniformly rotating solutions with small angular velocity. In particular, the initial perturbation which preserves the angular momentum would decay exponentially in time and the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations converges to the steady state as time grows up.

Diffusion-generated motion by mean curvature is a simple algorithm for producing motion by mean curvature of a surface, in which the motion is generated by alternately diffusing and renormalizing a characteristic function. In this paper, we generalize diffusion-generated motion to a procedure that can be applied to the curvature motion of filaments, i.e., curves in <i>R</i> ^3, that may initially consist of a complex configuration of links. The method consists of applying diffusion to a complex-valued function whose values wind around the filament, followed by normalization. We motivate this approach by considering the essential features of the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation, which is a reaction-diffusion PDE that describes the formation and propagation of filamentary structures. Speed ensemble of bistable (combustion) fronts in mean zero stationary Gaussian shear flows inside two and three dimensional channels is studied with a min-max variational principle. In the small root mean square regime of shear flows, a new class of multi-scale test functions are found to yield speed asymptotics. The quadratic speed enhancement law holds with probability arbitrarily close to one under the almost sure continuity (dimension two) and mean square Hlder regularity (dimension three) of the shear flows. Remarks are made on the quadratic and linear laws of front speed expectation in the small and large root mean square regimes.

G-equations are well-known front propagation models in turbulent combustion which describe the front motion law in the form of local normal velocity equal to a constant (laminar speed) plus the normal projection of fluid velocity. In level set formulation, G-equations are HamiltonJacobi equations with convex (<i>L</i> ¹ type) but non-coercive Hamiltonians. Viscous G-equations arise from either numerical approximations or regularizations by small diffusion. The nonlinear eigenvalue $${\bar H}$$ from the cell problem of the viscous G-equation can be viewed as an approximation of the inviscid turbulent flame speed <i>s</i> _T. We study the critical and super-critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equations in $\bR^ 2$ or $\bT^ 2$. Higher regularity of mild solutions with arbitrary initial data in H^{2-} is proved. As a corollary, we obtain a global existence result for the critical 2D quasi-geostrophic equations with periodic H^{2-} data. Some decay in time estimates are also provided.
