In this paper, we study the existence of stationary solutions to the VlasovPoissonBoltzmann system when the background density function tends to a positive constant with a very mild decay rate as| x|. In fact, the stationary VlasovPoissonBoltzmann system can be written into an elliptic equation with exponential nonlinearity. Under the assumption on the decay rate being (ln (e+| x|)) for some > 0, it is shown that this elliptic equation has a unique solution. This result generalizes the previous work [R. Glassey, J. Schaeffer, Y. Zheng, Steady states of the VlasovPoissonFokkerPlanck system, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 202 (1996) 10581075] where the decay rate (1+| x|) 1 2 is assumed.

In this paper, we consider the three-dimensional Schrdinger operator with a -interaction of strength > 0 supported on an unbounded surface parametrized by the mapping R2x(x,f(x)), where 0, and f:R2R, f 0, is a C2-smooth, compactly supported function. The surface supporting the interaction can be viewed as a local deformation of the plane. It is known that the essential spectrum of this Schrdinger operator coincides with 142,+. We prove that for all sufficiently small > 0, its discrete spectrum is non-empty and consists of a unique simple eigenvalue. Moreover, we obtain an asymptotic expansion of this eigenvalue in the limit 0+. In particular, this eigenvalue tends to 142 exponentially fast as 0+.

G-equations are well-known front propagation models in turbulent combustion which describe the front motion law in the form of local normal velocity equal to a constant (laminar speed) plus the normal projection of fluid velocity. In level set formulation, G-equations are HamiltonJacobi equations with convex (<i>L</i> ¹ type) but non-coercive Hamiltonians. Viscous G-equations arise from either numerical approximations or regularizations by small diffusion. The nonlinear eigenvalue $${\bar H}$$ from the cell problem of the viscous G-equation can be viewed as an approximation of the inviscid turbulent flame speed <i>s</i> _T. An important problem in turbulent combustion theory is to study properties of <i>s</i> _T, in particular how <i>s</i> _T depends on the flow amplitude <i>A</i>. In this paper, we discuss the waiting time phenomena for a class of non-Newtonian polytropic filtration equation with convection. According to the influence of the convection on the waiting time property, the convection is classified into three classes, that is, the strong convection, the mild convection and the weak convection. For different cases, the sufficient and necessary conditions on the initial data are given for the existence of waiting time respectively.

We investigate the fractional Schrödinger equation with a periodic PT-symmetric potential. In the inverse space, the problem transfers into a first-order nonlocal frequency-delay partial differential equation. We show that at a critical point, the band structure becomes linear and symmetric in the one-dimensional case, which results in a nondiffracting propagation and conical diffraction of input beams. If only one channel in the periodic potential is excited, adjacent channels become uniformly excited along the propagation direction, which can be used to generate laser beams of high power and narrow width. In the two-dimensional case, there appears conical diffraction that depends on the competition between the fractional Laplacian operator and the PT-symmetric potential. This investigation may find applications in novel on-chip optical devices.
