We consider the zero heat conductivity limit to a contact discontinuity for the mono-dimensional full compressible Navier--Stokes--Fourier system. The method is based on the relative entropy method and does not assume any smallness conditions on the discontinuity nor on the bounded variation norm of the initial data. It is proved that for any viscosity , the solution of the compressible Navier--Stokes--Fourier system (with well-prepared initial value) converges, when the heat conductivity tends to zero, to the contact discontinuity solution to the corresponding Euler system. We obtain the decay rate . It implies that the heat conductivity dominates the dissipation in the regime of the limit to a contact discontinuity. This is the first result, based on the relative entropy, of an asymptotic limit to a discontinuous solution for a system.

Diffusion-generated motion by mean curvature is a simple algorithm for producing motion by mean curvature of a surface, in which the motion is generated by alternately diffusing and renormalizing a characteristic function. In this paper, we generalize diffusion-generated motion to a procedure that can be applied to the curvature motion of filaments, i.e., curves in <i>R</i> ^3, that may initially consist of a complex configuration of links. The method consists of applying diffusion to a complex-valued function whose values wind around the filament, followed by normalization. We motivate this approach by considering the essential features of the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation, which is a reaction-diffusion PDE that describes the formation and propagation of filamentary structures. There have been extensive studies on the large time behavior of solutions to systems on gas motions, such as the Navier-Stokes equations and the Boltzmann equation. Recently, an approach is introduced by combining the energy method and the spectral analysis to the study of the optimal rates of convergence to the asymptotic profiles. In this paper, we will first illustrate this method by using some simple model and then we will present some recent results on the Navier-Stokes equations and the Boltzmann equation. Precisely, we prove the stability of the non-trivial steady state for the Navier-Stokes equations with potential forces and also obtain the optimal rate of convergence of solutions toward the steady state. The same issue was also studied for the Boltzmann equation in the presence of the general time-space dependent forces. It is expected that this approach can also be applied to other dissipative

In this paper, we discuss the waiting time phenomena for a class of non-Newtonian polytropic filtration equation with convection. According to the influence of the convection on the waiting time property, the convection is classified into three classes, that is, the strong convection, the mild convection and the weak convection. For different cases, the sufficient and necessary conditions on the initial data are given for the existence of waiting time respectively.

In this paper, we give a systematic study of the boundary layer behavior for linear convection-diffusion equation in the zero viscosity limit. We analyze the boundary layer structures in the viscous solution and derive the boundary condition satisfied by the viscosity limit as a solution of the inviscid equation. The results confirm that the Neumann type of far-field boundary condition is preferred in the outlet and characteristic boundary condition. Under some appropriate regularity and compatibility conditions on the initial and boundary data, we obtain optimal error estimates between the full viscous solution and the inviscid solution with suitable boundary layer corrections. These results hold in arbitrary space dimensions and similar statements also hold for the strip problem. This model well describes the behavior at the far-field for many physical and engineering systems such as fluid dynamical equation and electro-magnetic equation. The results obtained here should provide some theoretical guidance for designing effective far-field boundary conditions.
