Let $(X,T^{1,0}X)$ be a compact orientable embeddable three dimensional strongly pseudoconvex CR manifold and let ${\rm P\,}$ be the associated CR Paneitz operator. In this paper, we show that (I) ${\rm P\,}$ is self-adjoint and ${\rm P\,}$ has $L^2$ closed range. Let $N$ and $\Pi$ be the associated partial inverse and the orthogonal projection onto ${\rm Ker\,}{\rm P\,}$ respectively, then $N$ and $\Pi$ enjoy some regularity properties. (II) Let $\hat{\mathcal{P}}$ and $\hat{\mathcal{P}_0}$ be the space of $L^2$ CR pluriharmonic functions and the space of real part of $L^2$ global CR functions respectively. Let $S$ be the associated Szeg\"o projection and let $\tau$, $\tau_0$ be the orthogonal projections onto $\hat{\mathcal{P}}$ and $\hat{\mathcal{P}_0}$ respectively. Then, $\Pi=S+\ol S+F_0$, $\tau=S+\ol S+F_1$, $\tau_0=S+\ol S+F_2$, where $F_0, F_1, F_2$ are smoothing operators on $X$. In particular, $\Pi$, $\tau$ and $\tau_0$ are Fourier integral operators with complex phases and $\hat{\mathcal{P}}^\perp\bigcap{\rm Ker\,}{\rm P\,}$, $\hat{\mathcal{P}_0}^\perp\bigcap\hat{\mathcal{P}}$, $\hat{\mathcal{P}_0}^\perp\bigcap{\rm Ker\,}{\rm P\,}$ are all finite dimensional subspaces of $C^\infty(X)$ (it is well-known that $\hat{\mathcal{P}_0}\subset\hat{\mathcal{P}}\subset{\rm Ker\,}{\rm P\,}$). (III) ${\rm Spec\,}{\rm P\,}$ is a discrete subset of $\Real$ and for every $\lambda\in{\rm Spec\,}{\rm P\,}$, $\lambda\neq0$, $\lambda$ is an eigenvalue of ${\rm P\,}$ and the associated eigenspace $H_\lambda({\rm P\,})$ is a finite dimensional subspace of $C^\infty(X)$.

We show that if X is a cocompact G-CW-complex such that each isotropy subgroup Gσ is L(2)-good over an arbitrary commutative ring k, then X satisfies some fixed-point formula which is an L(2)-analogue of Brown’s formula in 1982. Using this result we present a fixed point formula for a cocompact proper G-CW-complex which relates the equivariant L(2)-Euler characteristic of a fixed point CW-complex Xs and the Euler characteristic of X/G. As corollaries, we prove Atiyah’s theorem in 1976, Akita’s formula in 1999 and a result of Chatterji-Mislin in 2009. We also show that if X is a free G-CW-complex such that C∗(X) is chain homotopy equivalent to a chain complex of finitely generated projective Zπ1(X)-modules of finite length and X satisfies some fixed-point formula over Q or C which is an L(2)-analogue of Brown’s formula, then χ(X/G)=χ(2)(X). As an application, we prove that the weak Bass conjecture holds for any finitely presented group G satisfying the following condition: for any finitely dominated CW-complex Y with π1(Y )=G, Y satisfies some fixed-point formula over Q or C which is an L(2)-analogue of Brown’s formula.

Given a hypersurface coamoeba of a Laurent polynomial$f$, it is an open problem to describe the structure of the set of connected components of its complement. In this paper we approach this problem by introducing the lopsided coamoeba. We show that the closed lopsided coamoeba comes naturally equipped with an order map, i.e. a map from the set of connected components of its complement to a translated lattice inside the zonotope of a Gale dual of the point configuration $\operatorname{supp}(f)$ . Under a natural assumption, this map is a bijection. Finally we use this map to obtain new results concerning coamoebas of polynomials of small codimension.

Let X1 and X2 be two compact connected strongly pseudoconvex embeddable Cauchy-Riemann (CR) manifolds of dimensions 2m − 1 and 2n − 1 in Cm+1 and Cn+1, respectively. We introduce the Thom- Sebastiani sum X = X1⊕X2 which is a new compact connected strongly pseudoconvex embeddable CR manifold of dimension 2m+2n+1 in Cm+n+2. Thus the set of all codimension 3 strongly pseudoconvex compact connected CR manifolds in Cn+1 for all n > 2 forms a semigroup. X is said to be an irreducible element in this semigroup if X cannot be written in the form X1 ⊕X2. It is a natural question to determine when X is an irreducible CR manifold. We use Kohn-Rossi cohomology groups to give a necessary condition of the above question. Explicitly, we show that if X = X1 ⊕ X2, then the Kohn-Rossi cohomology of the X is the product of those Kohn-Rossi cohomology coming from X1 and X2 provided that X2 admits a transversal holomorphic S1-action.
