We construct a solution to inverse mean curvature flow on an asymptotically hyperbolic 3-manifold which does not have the convergence properties needed in order to prove a Penrose–type inequality. This contrasts sharply with the asymptotically flat case. The main idea consists in combining inverse mean curvature flow with work done by Shi–Tam regarding boundary behavior of compact manifolds. Assuming the Penrose inequality holds, we also derive a nontrivial inequality for functions on S2.

A well-known result on pseudodifferential operators states that the noncommutative residue (Wodzicki residue) of a zero-order pseudodifferential projection on a closed manifold vanishes. This statement is non-local and implies the regularity of the eta invariant at zero of Dirac type operators. We prove that in the odd dimensional case an analogous statement holds for the algebra of projective pseudodifferential operators, i.e., the noncommutative residue of a projective pseudodifferential projection vanishes. Our strategy of proof also simplifies the argument in the classical setting. We show that the noncommutative residue factors to a map from the twisted K-theory of the co-sphere bundle and then use arguments from twisted K-theory to reduce this question to a known model case. It can then be verified by local computations that this map vanishes in odd dimensions.

We apply the mean curvature flow to deform symplectomorphisms of $\mathbb{CP}^n$. In particular, we prove that, for each dimension $n$, there exists a constant , explicitly computable, such that anypinched symplectomorphism of $\mathbb{CP}^n$ is symplectically isotopic to a biholomorphic isometry.

A hyperbolic 3-manifold M which fibers over the circle admits a flow called the suspension flow. We show that such a flow can be isotoped to be uniformly quasigeodesic in the hyperbolic metric on M; i.e., the flow lines lifted to hyperbolic space are K-bilipschitz embeddings of R (K > 1 fixed).

We show that the first Johnson subgroup of the mapping class group of a surface  of genus greater than 1 acts ergodically on the moduli space of representations of π1() in SU2. Our proof relies on a local description of the latter space around the trivial representation and on the Taylor expansion of trace functions.
