We prove a formula which relates Euler characteristic of moduli spaces of stable pairs on local K3 surfaces to counting invariants of semistable sheaves on them. Our formula generalizes KawaiYoshioka’s formula for stable pairs with irreducible curve classes to arbitrary curve classes. We also propose a conjectural multiple cover formula of sheaf counting invariants which, combined with our main result, leads to an Euler characteristic version of KatzKlemm-Vafa conjecture for stable pairs.

Mean curvature ows of hypersurfaces have been extensively studied and there are various dierent approaches and many beautiful results. However, relatively little is known about mean curvature ows of submanifolds of higher codimensions. This notes starts with some basic materials on submanifold geometry, and then introduces mean curvature ows in general dimensions and co-dimensions. The related techniques in the so called \blow-up" analysis are also discussed. At the end, we present some global existence and convergence results for mean curvature ows of two-dimensional surfaces in four-dimensional ambient spaces.

Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold with a fixed conformal structure. Then we introduce the concept of conformal volume of M in the following manner. For each branched conformal immersion q9 of M into the unit sphere S n, we consider the set of all branched conformal immersions obtained by composition of qo with the conformal automorphisms of S". We let Vc (n, qg) be the maximum volume of these branched immersions. The conformal volume of M is defined to be the infimum of V.(n, q0) where qo ranges over all branched conformal immersions of M into the unit sphere S". In this paper, we study the case when M is a compact surface and we call the conformal volume of M to be the conformal area of M. We demonstrate that this conformal invariant is non-trivial. In fact, we prove that if there exists a minimal immersion of M into S" where coordinate functions are first eigenfunctions, then the conformal area of M is given by the area of M with respect to the induced metric. This enables us to compute the conformal area for several surfaces. For example, the conformal area of RP z is 6n and the conformal area of the square torus is 27c 2. We believe that the computation of the conformal area for general surfaces will be very important in studying the geometry of compact surfaces. We demonstrate this claim by applying the concept of conformal area to two different branches of surface theory. The first application is to study the total curvature of a compact surface in R". This note is based on a series of four lectures the author gave at University of Montpellier, September 28-30, 2015. He started with the notion of mass in general relativity, gave a brief review of some known constructions of quasi-local mass, and then discussed the new quasi-local energy and quasi-local mass which Shing-Tung Yau and the author introduced in 2009. At the end, the proof of the positivity of quasi-local energy was sketched and a stability theorem of critical points of quasi-local energy by Po-Ning Chen, Shing-Tung Yau, and the author was discussed

We investigate the Chern–Ricci flow, an evolution equation of Hermitian metrics generalizing the Kähler–Ricci flow, on elliptic bundles over a Riemann surface of genus greater than one. We show that, starting at any Gauduchon metric, the flow collapses the elliptic fibers and the metrics converge to the pullback of a Kähler–Einstein metric from the base. Some of our estimates are new even for the Kähler–Ricci flow. A consequence of our result is that, on every minimal non-Kähler surface of Kodaira dimension one, the Chern–Ricci flow converges in the sense of Gromov–Hausdorff to an orbifold Kähler–Einstein metric on a Riemann surface.
