We prove several formulas related to Hodge theory and theKodaira– Spencer–Kuranishi deformation theory of Kähler manifolds. As applications, wepresent a construction of globally convergent power series of integrableBeltrami differentials on Calabi–Yau manifolds and also a construction of global canonical family of holomorphic (n, 0)-forms on the deformation spaces of Calabi–Yau manifolds. Similar constructions are also applied to the deformation spaces of compact Kähler manifolds.

We study the action of the group of contact diffeomorphisms on CR deformations of compact three dimensional CR manifolds. Using anisotropic function spaces and an anisotropic structure on the space of contact diffeomorphisms, we establish the existence of local transverse slices to the action of the contact diffeomorphism group in the neighborhood of a fixed embeddable strongly pseudoconvex CR structure.

We prove that if a connected Lie group action on a complete Riemannian manifold preserves the geodesics (considered as unparameterized curves), then the metric has constant positive sectional curvature, or the group acts by affine transformations.

1. Statement of results Let Mn be a compact manifold of dimension n endowed with a Riemannian metric. The spectrum of the Laplacian,, acting on functions form a discrete set of the form {0< 1 2 k}. In 1970, Joseph Hersch [5] gave a sharp upper bound for the first non-zero eigenvalue 1 for any Riemannian metric on the 2-sphere in terms of its volume alone. Similar estimates for 1 on any compact oriented surfaces were derived by Yang-Yau [7]. The second and the third authors [6] studied the nonorientable surfaces and pointed out the relationship of 1 and the conformal class of the surface. In fact, their estimates were applied to study the Willmore problem. Another application of these types of upper bounds was found by Choi-Schoen [3] in relation to the set of all minimal surfaces in a compact 3-manifold of positive Ricci curvature. The purpose of this paper is to prove a higher dimensional generalization of the above results. It was pointed out by Marcel Berger [1] that Herschs theorem fails in higher dimensional spheres. In this article we show how the classical theory of Reeb and others extends to the case of codimension one singular foliations on closed oriented manifolds, provided that at the singular set sing(F), the foliation is locally defined by Bott-Morse functions which are transversely centers. We prove, in this setting, the equivalent of the local and the complete stability theorems of Reeb. We show that if F has a compact leaf with finite fundamental group, or if a component of sing(F) has codimension ≥ 3 and finite fundamental group, then all leaves of F are compact and diffeomorphic, sing(F) consists of two connected components, and there is a Bott-Morse function f : M → [0, 1] such that f : M \ sing(F) → (0, 1) is a fiber bundle defining F and sing(F) = f.1({0, 1}). This yields a topological description of the type of leaves that appear in these foliations, and also the type of manifolds admitting such foliations. These results unify and generalize well known results for cohomogeneity one isometric actions, and a theorem of Reeb for foliations with Morse singularities of center type.
