Ricci flow deforms the Riemannian metric proportionally to the curvature, such that the curvature evolves according to a heat diffusion process and eventually becomes constant everywhere. Ricci flow has demonstrated its great potential by solving various problems in many fields, which can be hardly handled by alternative methods so far.

We prove a McShane-type identity: a series, expressed in terms of geodesic lengths, that sums to 2π for any closed hyperbolic surface with one distinguished point. To do so, we prove a generalized Birman-Series theorem showing that the set of complete geodesics on a hyperbolic surface with large cone angles is sparse.

Let H be a semisimple algebraic group. We prove the semistable reduction theorem for μ–semistable principal H–bundles over a smooth projective variety X defined over the field C. When X is a smooth projective surface and H is simple, we construct the algebro–geometric Donaldson–Uhlenbeck compactification of the moduli space of μ–semistable principal H–bundles with fixed char- acteristic classes and describe its points. For large characteristic classes we show that the moduli space of μ–stable principal H–bundles is non–empty.

In this note we introduce a natural Finsler structure on convex surfaces, referred to as the quotient Finsler structure, which is dual in a sense to the inclusion of a convex surface in a normed space as a submanifold. It has an associated quotient girth, which is similar to the notion of girth defined by Sch¨affer. We prove the analogs of Sch¨affer’s dual girth conjecture (proved by ´ Alvarez-Paiva) and the Holmes–Thompson dual volumes theorem in the quotient setting. We then show that the quotient Finsler structure admits a natural extension to higher Grassmannians, and prove the corresponding theorems in the general case. We follow ´ Alvarez-Paiva’s approach to the problem, namely, we study the symplectic geometry of the associated co-ball bundles. For the higher Grassmannians, the theory of Hamiltonian actions is applied.
