Let K be a knot in an integral homology 3-sphere Y, and Σ the corresponding n-fold cyclic branched cover. Assuming that Σ is a rational homology sphere (which is always the case when n is a prime power), we give a formula for the Lefschetz number of the action that the covering translation induces on the reduced monopole homology of Σ. The proof relies on a careful analysis of the Seiberg--Witten equations on 3-orbifolds and of various η-invariants. We give several applications of our formula: (1) we calculate the Seiberg--Witten and Furuta--Ohta invariants for the mapping tori of all semi-free actions of Z/n on integral homology 3-spheres; (2) we give a novel obstruction (in terms of the Jones polynomial) for the branched cover of a knot in S3 being an L-space; (3) we give a new set of knot concordance invariants in terms of the monopole Lefschetz numbers of covering translations on the branched covers.

In this paper we investigate the one-dimensional hyperbolic mean curvature flow for closed plane curves. More precisely, we consider a family of closed curves S 1[0, T) 2 which satisfies the following evolution equation 2 F t 2 (u, t)= k (u, t) N(u, t)- (u, t),(u, t) S 1[0, T) with the initial data F (u, 0)= F 0 (u) a n d F t (u, 0)= f (u) N 0, where k is the mean curvature and is the unit inner normal vector of the plane curve F (u, t), f (u) and are the initial velocity and the unit inner normal vector of the initial convex closed curve Fo, respectively, and is given by ( 2 F s t, F t) T, in which stands for the unit tangent vector. The above problem is an initial value problem for a system of partial differential equations for F, it can be completely reduced to an initial value problem for a single partial differential equation for its support function. The latter equation is a hyperbolic Monge-Ampere

By studying the Seiberg-Witten equations on end-periodic manifolds, we give an obstruction on the existence of positive scalar curvature metric on compact 4-manifolds with the same homology as S1×S3. This obstruction is given in terms of the relation between the Frøyshov invariant of the generator of H3(X;Z) with the 4-dimensional Casson invariant λSW(X) defined by Mrowka-Ruberman-Saveliev. Along the way, we develop a framework that can be useful in further study of the Seiberg-Witten theory on general end-periodic manifolds.

Let $(X,\alpha)$ be a K\"ahler manifold of dimension $n$, and let $[\omega] \in H^{1,1}(X,\mathbb{R})$. We study the problem of specifying the Lagrangian phase of $\omega$ with respect to $\alpha$, which is described by the nonlinear elliptic equation \[ \sum_{i=1}^{n} \arctan(\la_i)= h(x) \] where $\la_i$ are the eigenvalues of $\omega$ with respect to $\alpha$. When $h(x)$ is a topological constant, this equation corresponds to the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills (dHYM) equation, and is related by Mirror Symmetry to the existence of special Lagrangian submanifolds of the mirror. We introduce a notion of subsolution for this equation, and prove a priori $C^{2,\beta}$ estimates when $|h|>(n-2)\frac{\pi}{2}$ and a subsolution exists. Using the method of continuity we show that the dHYM equation admits a smooth solution in the supercritical phase case, whenever a subsolution exists. Finally, we discover some stability-type cohomological obstructions to the existence of solutions to the dHYM equation and we conjecture that when these obstructions vanish the dHYM equation admits a solution. We confirm this conjecture for complex surfaces.

We consider the inverse curvature flow of strictly convex hypersurfaces in the space form N of constant sectional curvature K_N with speed given by F^{−α}, where α∈(0,1] for K_N=0,−1 and α=1 for K_N=1, F is a smooth, symmetric homogeneous of degree one function which is inverse concave and has dual F_∗ approaching zero on the boundary of the positive cone Γ_+. We show that the ratio of the largest principal curvature to the smallest principal curvature of the flow hypersurface is controlled by its initial value. This can be used to prove the smooth convergence of the flows.
