In this paper the existence of positive 2\pi -periodic solutions to the ordinary differential equation \begin{equation*} u^{\prime\prime}+u=\frac{f}{u^3} \ \textrm{ in } \mathbb{R} \end{equation*}is studied, where 2\pi is a positive 2\pi -periodic smooth function. By virtue of a new generalized Blaschke鈥揝antal贸 inequality, we obtain a new existence result of solutions.

We prove a McShane-type identity: a series, expressed in terms of geodesic lengths, that sums to 2π for any closed hyperbolic surface with one distinguished point. To do so, we prove a generalized Birman-Series theorem showing that the set of complete geodesics on a hyperbolic surface with large cone angles is sparse.

We study the uniqueness of minimal submanifolds and the stability of the mean curvature flow in several well-known model spaces of manifolds of special holonomy. These include the Stenzel metric on the cotangent bundle of spheres, the Calabi metric on the cotangent bundle of complex projective spaces, and the Bryant--Salamon metrics on vector bundles over certain Einstein manifolds. In particular, we show that the zero sections, as calibrated submanifolds with respect to their respective ambient metrics, are unique among compact minimal submanifolds and are dynamically stable under the mean curvature flow. The proof relies on intricate interconnections of the Ricci flatness of the ambient space and the extrinsic geometry of the calibrated submanifolds.

In this paper the centroaffine Minkowski problem, a critical case of the L p-Minkowski problem in the n+ 1 dimensional Euclidean space, is studied. By its variational structure and the method of blow-up analyses, we obtain two sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions, for a generalized rotationally symmetric case of the problem.

WE CONSIDER Haken manifolds M. That is three manifolds which are compact, irreducible, orientable, and sufficiently 1arge. S 8M may or may not be empty. This class of 3-manifolds shares many properties with closed surfaces (# S2 or RP2). On an algebraic level, both are examples of K (T, 1)s. More geometrically the hierarchy structure of a Haken manifold [9] is analogous to a sequence of cuts turning a surface into a disk. With the aid of minimal surfaces we are able to find a sufficiently natural hierarchy to establish a new similarity between Haken manifolds and surfaces. Our main theorem is:
