We study the differential polynomial rings which are defined using the special geometry of the moduli spaces of Calabi-Yau threefolds. The higher genus topological string amplitudes are expressed as polynomials in the generators of these rings, giving them a global description in the moduli space. At particular loci, the amplitudes yield the generating functions of Gromov-Witten invariants. We show that these rings are isomorphic to the rings of quasi modular forms for threefolds with duality groups for which these are known. For the other cases, they provide generalizations thereof. We furthermore study an involution which acts on the quasi modular forms. We interpret it as a duality which exchanges two distinguished expansion loci of the topological string amplitudes in the moduli space. In this paper, we review recent developments on the derivation and properties of macroscopic models of collective motion and self-organization. The starting point is a model of self-propelled particles interacting with its neighbors through alignment. We successively derive a mean-field model and its hydrodynamic limit. The resulting macroscopic model is the Self-Organized Hydrodynamics (SOH). We review the available existence results and known properties of the SOH model and discuss it in view of its possible extensions to other kinds of collective motion.

String theory contains solutions with SL(2,R)_R x U(1)_L-invariant warped AdS3 (WAdS3) factors arising as continuous deformations of ordinary AdS3 factors. We propose that some of these are holographically dual to the IR limits of nonlocal dipole-deformed 2D D-brane gauge theories, referred to as "dipole CFTs". Neither the bulk nor boundary theories are currently well-understood, and consequences of the proposed duality for both sides is investigated. The bulk entropy-area law suggests that dipole CFTs have (at large N) a high-energy density of states which does not depend on the deformation parameter. Putting the boundary theory on a spatial circle leads to closed timelike curves in the bulk, suggesting a relation of the latter to dipole-type nonlocality.

We present a network flow model to compute transport, through a pore network, of a compositional fluid consisting of water with a dissolved hydrocarbon gas. The model captures single-phase flow (below local bubble point conditions) as well as the genesis and migration of the gas phase when bubble point conditions are achieved locally. Constant temperature computational tests were run on simulated 2D and 3D micro-networks near bubble point pressure conditions. In the 2D simulations which employed a homogeneous network, negligible capillary pressure, and linear relative permeability relations, the observed concentration of CO2 dissolved in the liquid phase throughout the medium was linearly related to the liquid pressure. In the case of no gravity, the saturation of the gas phase throughout the medium was also linearly related to the liquid pressure; under gravity, the relationship became nonlinear in regions where buoyancy forces were significant. The 3Dheterogeneous network model had non-negligible capillary pressure and nonlinear relative permeability functions. While 100 % of the CO2 entered the 3D network dissolved in the liquid phase, 25 % of the void space was occupied by gas phase and 47 % of the CO2 exiting the outlet face did so via the gaseous phase after 500 s of simulation time.

The action of a Lie pseudogroup $\mathcal{G}$ on a smooth manifold$M$induces a prolonged pseudogroup action on the jet spaces$J$^{$n$}of submanifolds of$M$. We prove in this paper that both the local and global freeness of the action of $\mathcal{G}$ on$J$^{$n$}persist under prolongation in the jet order$n$. Our results underlie the construction of complete moving frames and, indirectly, their applications in the identification and analysis of the various invariant objects for the prolonged pseudogroup actions.
