In 1962 Sprind\v{z}uk proved Mahler's conjecture in both the real and complex cases. Baker gave a generalized result by using a modified version of Sprind\v{z}uk's method. Later, Baker and Schmidt derived the Hausdorff dimensions of sets which are defiend in terms of approximation by algebraic numbers of bounded degrees by using Baker's theorem. In this article we will prove two analogue theorems in the fields of formal power series over finite finite fields.

In two recent papers by Barry (2010) [29] and (2011) [30], it is conjectured that Somos-4 admits a solution expressed in terms of Hankel determinant with its elements satisfying a convolution recursion relation. In this paper, Barrys conjecture on Somos-4 is firstly confirmed. Actually, we present a more generalized result. The proof is mainly based on new findings on properties for so-called BlockHankel determinants. The method can also be used to prove another conjecture proposed by Michael Somos, which has been solved by Guoce Xin.

We study the existence of Artin–Schreier curves with large a‑number. We show that Artin–Schreier curves with large a‑number can be written in certain forms and discuss their supersingularity. We also give a basis of the de Rham cohomology of Artin–Schreier curves. By computing the rank of the Hasse–Witt matrix of the curve, we also give bounds on the a‑number of trigonal curves of genus 5 in small characteristic.

In the classical theory of multiple zeta values (MZV's), Furusho proposed a conjecture asserting that the p-adic MZV's satisfy the same Q-linear relations that their corresponding real-valued MZV counterparts satisfy. In this paper, we verify a stronger version of a function field analogue of Furusho's conjecture in the sense that we are able to deal with all linear relations over an algebraic closure of the given rational function field, not just the rational linear relations.
