In this paper we derive new fractional error bounds for polynomial systems with exponents explicitly determined by the dimension of the underlying space and the number/degree of the involved polynomials. Our major result extends the existing error bounds from the system involving only a single polynomial to a general polynomial system and do not require any regularity assumptions. In this way we resolve, in particular, some open questions posed in the literature. The developed techniques are largely based on variational analysis and generalized differentiation, which allow us to establish, e.g., a nonsmooth extension of the seminal Łojasiewicz’s gradient inequality to maxima of polynomials with explicitly determined exponents. Our major applications concern quantitative Hölderian stability of solution maps for parameterized polynomial optimization problems and nonlinear complementarity systems with polynomial data as well as high-order semismooth properties of the eigenvalues of symmetric tensors.

In this paper, we study the ill posed Perona-Malik equation of image processing [14], and the regularized P-M model i.e. C-model proposed by Catte et al. [4]. The authors present the convex compound of these two models in the form of the system of partial differential equations. The weak solution for the equations is proved in detail. The additive operator splitting (AOS) algorithm for the proposed model is also given. Finally, we show some numeric experiment results on images.

A new class of implicit high-order non-oscillatory time integration schemes is introduced in a method-of-lines framework. These schemes can be used in conjunction with an appropriate spatial discretization scheme for the numerical solution of time dependent conservation equations. The main concept behind these schemes is that the order of accuracy in time is dropped locally in regions where the time evolution of the solution is not smooth. By doing this, an attempt is made at locally satisfying monotonicity conditions, while maintaining a high order of accuracy in most of the solution domain. When a linear high order time integration scheme is used along with a high order spatial discretization, enforcement of monotonicity imposes severe time-step restrictions. We propose to apply limiters to these time-integration schemes, thus making them non-linear. When these new schemes are used with high order spatial discretizations, solutions remain non-oscillatory for much larger time-steps as compared to linear time integration schemes. Numerical results obtained on scalar conservation equations and systems of conservation equations are highly promising.

In this paper, we present an adaptive, analysis of variance (ANOVA)-based data-driven stochastic method (ANOVA-DSM) to study the stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) in the multi-query setting. Our new method integrates the advantages of both the adaptive ANOVA decomposition technique and the data-driven stochastic method. To handle high-dimensional stochastic problems, we investigate the use of adaptive ANOVA decomposition in the stochastic space as an effective dimension-reduction technique. To improve the slow convergence of the generalized polynomial chaos (gPC) method or stochastic collocation (SC) method, we adopt the data-driven stochastic method (DSM) for speed up. An essential ingredient of the DSM is to construct a set of stochastic basis under which the stochastic solutions enjoy a compact representation for a broad range of forcing functions and/or boundary conditions

In this paper, we propose an unfitted Nitsche's method to compute the band structures of phononic crystal with impurities of general geometry. The proposed method does not require the background mesh to fit the interfaces of impurities, and thus avoids the expensive cost of generating body-fitted meshes and simplifies the inclusion of interface conditions in the formulation. The quasi-periodic boundary conditions are handled by the Floquet-Bloch transform, which converts the computation of band structures into an eigenvalue problem with periodic boundary conditions. More importantly, we show the well-posedness of the proposed method using a delicate argument based on the trace inequality, and further prove the convergence by the Babuška-Osborn theory. We achieve the optimal convergence rate at the presence of the impurities of general geometry. We confirm the theoretical results by two numerical examples, and show the capability of the proposed methods for computing the band structures without fitting the interfaces of impurities.
