In this paper, we develop bound-preserving modified exponential Runge-Kutta (RK) discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes to solve scalar hyperbolic equations with stiff source terms by extending the idea in Zhang and Shu \cite{ZhSh:10max}. Exponential strong stability preserving (SSP) high order time discretizations are constructed and then modified to overcome the stiffness and preserve the bound of the numerical solutions. It is also straightforward to extend the method to two dimensions on rectangular and triangular meshes. Even though we only discuss the bound-preserving limiter for DG schemes, it can also be applied to high order finite volume schemes, such as weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) finite volume schemes as well.

We are interested in front propagation problems in the presence of obstacles. We extend a previous work (Bokanowski, Cheng and Shu 09}), to propose a simple and direct discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method adapted to such front propagation problems. We follow the formulation of Bokanowski et al. (Bokanowski_Forcadel_Zidani_2010), leading to a level set formulation driven by $\min(u_t + H(x,\nabla u), u-g(x))=0$, where $g(x)$ is an obstacle function. The DG scheme is motivated by the variational formulation when the Hamiltonian $H$ is a linear function of $\nabla u$, corresponding to linear convection problems in presence of obstacles. The scheme is then generalized to nonlinear equations, written in an explicit form. Stability analysis are performed for the linear case with Euler forward, a Heun scheme and a Runge-Kutta third order time discretization using the technique proposed in Zhang and Shu 2010. Several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the robustness of the method. Finally, a narrow band approach is considered in order to reduce the computational cost.

With the rapid development of internet economy, transparent logistics is stepping into a prosperity period with massive transportation data generated and collected every day. In this paper, we focus on the segmentation of GPS trajectory data generated in logistics transportation to analyze the vehicle behaviors and extract business affair information according to the vehicle behavior characteristics, which is challenging due to the complexity of trajectory data and unavailability of road information. We extract the stopping points from the trajectory data sequence based on the duration of nonmovement, and construct business time window and electronic fence by analyzing the driving habits of vehicles. Furthermore, we propose a probabilistic logic based data segmentation method (PLDSM) which not only helps finding all the business points but also assists in inferring the business affair categories. The main purpose of this paper is to study the stability and error estimates of the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) methods coupled with multi-step implicit-explicit (IMEX) time discretization schemes, for solving time-dependent incompressible fluid flows. We will give theoretical analysis for the Oseen equation, and assess the performance of the schemes for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations numerically. For the Oseen equation, using first order IMEX time discretization as an example, we show that the IMEX-LDG scheme is unconditionally stable for $\Qcal_k$ elements on cartesian meshes, in the sense that the time-step $\dt$ is only required to be {bounded from above} by a positive constant independent of the spatial mesh size $h$. Furthermore, by the aid of the \emph{Stokes projection} and an elaborate energy analysis, we obtain the $L^{\infty}(L^2)$ optimal error estimates for both the velocity and the stress (gradient of velocity), in both space and time. By the \emph{inf-sup} argument, we also obtain the $L^{\infty}(L^2)$ optimal error estimates for the pressure. Numerical experiments are given to validate our main results.

A time-dependent Hermite-Galerkin spectral method (THGSM) is investigated in this paper for the nonlinear convection-diffusion equations in the unbounded domains. The time-dependent scaling factor and translating factor are introduced in the definition of the generalized Hermite functions (GHF). As a consequence, the THGSM based on these GHF has many advantages, not only in theoretical proofs, but also in numerical implementations. The stability and spectral convergence of our proposed method have been established in this paper. The Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equation and its special cases, including the heat equation and the Burgers' equation, as the examples, have been numerically solved by our method. The numerical results are presented, and it surpasses the existing methods in accuracy. Our theoretical proof of the spectral convergence has been supported by the numerical results.
