In this paper, a new type of finite difference Hermite weighted essentially non-oscillatory (HWENO) schemes are constructed for solving Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equations. Point values of both the solution and its first derivatives are used in the HWENO reconstruction and evolved via time advancing. While the evolution of the solution is still through the classical numerical fluxes to ensure convergence to weak solutions, the evolution of the first derivatives of the solution is through a simple dimension-by-dimension non-conservative procedure to gain efficiency. The main advantages of this new scheme include its compactness in the spatial field and its simplicity in the reconstructions. Extensive numerical experiments in one and two dimensional cases are performed to verify the accuracy, high resolution and efficiency of this new scheme.

Different from conventional spaceborne or airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) with optimal aperture length, an imaging radar with highly suboptimal aperture length acquires the data in short bursts by a geometry spreading over a large range. A polarlike or pseudopolar format grid is introduced to sample data close to the resolution, which presents the design of a separable kernel for efficient FFT implementation. The proposed imaging algorithm formulates the reflectivity image of the target scene as an interpolation-free double image series expansion with two usual approximation-induced phase error terms being taken into account, whereby more generalized application scenarios with high frequency, large bandwidth or larger aperture length for imaging a target scene located within either the far-field or the near-field of the radar aperture are processable with high accuracy. Based on a general framework on the local stability, we obtain the optimal error estimate out of the local subdomain, which is nearby the outflow boundary point and has the width of O(h log(1/h)), for the semi-discrete LDG scheme and the fully-discrete LDG scheme with the second order explicit Runge–Kutta time-marching. Here h is the maximum mesh length. The numerical experiments are given also.

In this paper, we develop and analyze the Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) method to solve weakly coupled hyperbolic multi-domain problems. Such problems involve transfer type boundary conditions with discontinuous fluxes between different domains, calling for special techniques to prove stability of the RKDG methods. We prove both stability and error estimates for our RKDG methods on simple models, and then apply them to a biological cell proliferation model \cite{EMSC}. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the good behavior of our RKDG methods.

In this paper, we adapt a simple weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) limiter, originally designed for discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes, to the correction procedure via reconstruction (CPR) framework for solving conservation laws. The objective of this simple WENO limiter is to simultaneously maintain uniform high order accuracy of the CPR framework in smooth regions and control spurious numerical oscillations near discontinuities. The WENO limiter we adopt in this paper is particularly simple to implement and will not harm the conservativeness of the CPR framework. Also, it uses information only from the target cell and its immediate neighbors, thus can maintain the compactness of the CPR framework. Since the CPR framework with the WENO limiter does not in general preserve positivity of the solution, we also extend the positivity preserving limiters to the CPR framework. Numerical results in one and two dimensions are provided to illustrate the good behavior of this procedure.
