We construct inner amenable groups$G$with infinite conjugacy classes and such that the associated II_{1}factor has no non-trivial asymptotically central elements, i.e. does not have property Gamma of Murray and von Neumann. This solves a problem posed by Effros in 1975.

This paper resolves a number of problems in the perturbation theory of linear operators, linked with the 45-year-old conjecure of M. G. Kreĭn. In particular, we prove that every Lipschitz function is operator-Lipschitz in the Schatten–von Neumann ideals$S$^{$α$}, 1 <$α$< ∞. In this paper, we introduce the notation of bi-shift of biprojections in subfactor theory to unimodular Kac algebras. We characterize the minimizers of the Hirschman-Beckner uncertainty principle and the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle for unimodular Kac algebras with biprojections and prove Hardy’s uncertainty principle in terms of the minimizers.

We discuss the boundary behavior of functions in star-invariant subspaces ($BH$^{2})^{⊥}, where$B$is a Blaschke product. Extending some results of Ahern and Clark, we are particularly interested in the growth rates of functions at points of the spectrum of$B$where$B$does not admit a derivative in the sense of Carathéodory.
